This is not aimed at you or Marwood or anyone in general , it is me asking a question.
Most people on social media and in the mainstream media hate 90% of Bennings signings , so why does everyone want more cap space? Are they that anxious to bring in another player they can hate? - VANTEL
Honestly I have no real issues with benning, I was just trying to make the signing a little more palatable.

I believe Benning’s taken the Canucks as far as he can, he doesn’t possess the skill-set required to get them to the next level. With good draft positions seemingly gone I just don’t have any faith that he’s the right person for the job. - Pacificgem
That is fair. I understand peoples dislike for the guy. I think he walked into a mess and has cleaned up a lot of it. I still am willing to give him more time. I think the next two years are going to be good years. |

All he did was spend lots of money, lose, and then pick in really good draft positions. Kevin Lowe and Peter Chiarelli did that in Edmonton and everyone rightfully says they’re idiots. Benning’s no different imo.
Boeser, Pettersson and Hughes were all great picks but they went right around where they were projected to go. Juolevi was a terrible pick, that Tkachuk kid would look really good in our top six right now. We had to endure a second last finish so he could waste the pick on Juolevi, (frank)er!!!
Again, imo all he did was waste Aquilini’s money (who cares) lose and pick in good draft positions. You could’ve done that, and you’re a terrible GM lol |

That is the general opinion of a good portion of the fan base. There seriously has been a lot more that has been done. Gaudette is a terrific find in the 5 th round and Madden most draft people say should have been a first round pick.
I think he has turned the Comets around so that when we need a call up we get NHL quality and not guys like we had under Willie D.
I honestly think that if Bo and Brock get their poop together this will be a very hard team to beat.

The only guy in recent memory I can think of that built a championship team from the ground up is Dean Lombardi, he drafted, developed, and then made some great trades that all culminated in two Stanley Cup titles. He was gifted Kopitar and Quick though.
That said, he royally (frank)ed it all up post championships by rewarding players with ridiculous contracts. So there is that. |

That's a bargain compared to paying $3.5MM per to Ferland. - YeOldTimer

The only thing with rafferty is he’s already 24 - not exactly a young prospect. He still looks good though. - canucksfan1944
Gaudette is knocking on that door.

It really isn't about the high draft picks anymore. It will come down to the complimentary players (lower drafted players) and a few trades. |

No GM is perfect and sometimes they get real lucky putting it together once in a while. If Dean was truly great, he would not have made it so the Kings are now bottom of the league half a decade later. |

That may well be true, but it's difficult to boost team toughness when you're on LTIR. |

Rangers Lias Andersson has asked for a trade. Do you consider him? May be able to swap parts. |

Will Lockwood and Toni Utunen for Andersson.
He's the player who threw his medal into the standings. Clearly has a few issues. |

I never said he was great, just the last guy who built a championship team almost entirely by himself. If he was great he’d still be there.
All GM’s inherit from the guy before them, unless you’re an expansion GM, then you inherit from everyone thru the protection rules.
When we contend again, it’ll be with a new GM who inherits the foundation Benning built thru losing and drafting well. |

I am disappointed in how the team has played this season. Oddly, they are where I kind of thought they would be but I think it's been too high and too low at times. A young team it happens.
I have liked Benning because he's doing a great job of drafting. His trading is still ok but trading in the NHL is so 50/50.
I don't really know what you mean by contending. To me making the playoffs is contending, which I don't think they are far off that. At that point, it's tweaking and hope that they put it all together to win a few rounds or a cup. |

I think for a 7oa pick he was terribly overrated. I'd say he's a player that needs to mature a lot. |

Morning skate #Canucks line rushes:
Pearson-Horvat-Eriksson
Miller-Pettersson-Boeser
Roussel-Gaudette-Virtanen
Schaller-Beagle-Motte
MacEwen
Hughes-Tanev
Fantenberg-Myers
Benn-Stecher
Edler-Chatfield
------------------
Much rather have Roussel up there and Eriksson with Gaudette so he only plays 10 minutes. Zac Mac instead of Schaller. |

True I guess. He’s also producing in the NHL already. With D, you never know. Sure he jumps into the NHL and just “has it”. We’ll find out this year for sure.
