Jesse Marshall seems to think trading Legare for Zucker is an overpayment. Not sure I agree. |

You having him on the 4th line then the Simon comment? Trolling 101. Amateur hour, broseph. - Rinosaur
In the playoffs when the refs actually let hockey be played and you roll lines, the number before it doesn’t really matter. |

Well hopefully Guerin reads this and takes it to heart because I don't think that's an overpayment at all. Would gladly pull trigger on that. |

Dougie Hamilton suffered a broken fibula last night. Further evaluation today will determine if surgery is needed. Similar injury that shut down Jordan Staal 1/2 season in 2014.
Huge blow for the Canes. Not Pens news, but Metro-related. This will definitely have a huge impact to the Canes in the standings IMO. |

If we all consider that Addison, Poulin and Legare are the top prospects for the Pens I'd be putting Legare at #3.
Zucker costs them only $5.5M with three more years. You replace McCann at 3C, remove Bjugstad, send Galchenyuk packing and the Pens would still have room to improve the team next year after doling out raises to McCann and Kahun.
Moving him for a guy who's still roughly three years away from sniffing NHL ice? Yes, please. |

I just checked and it was Legare and a 1st. I think that's fair, but Marshall is real high on Legare. |

Money out:
Bjugstad - 4.1
Galchenyuk - 4.9
Schultz - 5.5
Total: $14.5M
Money in:
Zucker - $5.5
McCann (raise amount) - $2.75
Kahun (raise amount) - $2.5
Pettersson (raise amount) - $2.875
Total: $13.625
You have roughly $1M to play with not considering the cap increase. The Pens would have enough money to secure a 3rd pairing RD.
Your forward crew looks like this at the moment...
Jake-Sid-Simon/Kahun
Zucker-Geno-Rust
Kahun/Simon-McCann-Horn
ZAR-Blueger-Tanev
Now factor in the following possibilities:
They move on from JJ to make space and replace him with Riikola for a small raise. Maybe pay him $1 - $1.5M.
Murray gets moved out if Jarry steals the thrown and you see little change in money spent on goalies outside of DeSmith's contract coming back up.
The Pens can build this team to extend the window another two or three years.
Sorry for the long post.

Might be bigger than us losing Guentzel. If Carlsson wasn't having such a historic offensive year, I think Hamilton had a shot at the Norris. |

And Marshall is way off. Looking at Legares dy+1 Q comparable p1/gp wise and it’s a very unimpressive list. |

Without a doubt, but so could Sprong so I wonder how he'll do if he's not on a top PP. Well worth using a 3rd to find out, but at the same time there are significant holes in his game that made him last until the 3rd round despite scoring 45 goals. |

There's no might about it. It's definitely bigger. While the canes have a nice d-core, he's SOOO integral to how much offense they're generating and when you consider that their goaltending is an issue it's going to hurt.
On a side note I predicted the Rangers would be very much in the mix for the wildcard and this may help their cause in conjunction with their improved play. |

If I recall correctly the knocks against him were his skating and play away from the puck, so we could possibly have a more physical version of Sprong on our hands. |

I think it's impressive relatively-speaking when you consider the Pens' drafting positions, but yes, when you think of this in terms of attractive assets to move for other pieces many teams can do better. Well, at least when you're attempting a hockey trade vs. rental player.
I honestly think the only reason the Pens have a shot at Zucker is because of Guerin otherwise the Wild wouldn't even be returning JR's calls. This is why I think Tatar is a pipe dream.

Sprong could really skate.
One thing for Legare is unlike Sprong he already knows he needs to improve. There was a report somewhere this week he was trying to learn some things from Rust's game to become a more complete player.
I bring them up mainly because both get a lot of their offense on the PP, and that doesn't alwaya translate well. Now if he can snag Kessel's old spot someday he could score a lot of goals. |

Thanks I'll check that out.
I figured as much, he isn't having near the same success, but one of the knocks against him is that he's linemate dependant.
I don't like using straight scoring metrics unless it's a star because it mixes in PP and most guys need to make it as ES players first. And it misses guys like Marino. |

I’m not slipping. That’s not trolling. I would be all about that. Give em a decent center and that would be a hell of a 4th line rolling into the playoffs. - Grinder47
If the Pens somehow did acquire Kane I’d want him with Sid and Geno. Dude’s a volume shooter and those 2 would be serving him passes like IHOP throws out pancakes. |
