They spend money, so I’m ok with them. Until they cut me off in traffic.

I love when they stop in the middle of a round about.

my buddy and I accidentally drove across the Mexican border into Tijuana, missed the park & ride turn, in a brand new convertible mustang and came across a four lane roundabout, as luck would have it we were on the inside lane and had to get to the outside lane to make a right turn and get our asses back to the border.

He lit those tires up with a beautiful smoke show and got ahead of everyone while the entire group of traffic stopped to see what the (frank) these idiot gringo’s were doing lol.

Decided it was time to finally upgrade the TV to a 4k OLED. Anyone have any suggestions for s 5.1 surround sound system? Movies, sports, netflix, disney+ being main usage.

Go with as high a refresh rate as possible; 240Hz or higher if you are trying to create a home theatre.

Whatever you choose get it from Costco because no one beats their return policy.

As for sound it really doesn’t matter. You ain’t filling a concert hall just your den/living room. Make sure you got a decent subwoofer and centre speaker for voice and you’re all set.

Depends on your budget. Sound is very important to the home theatre environment and if you go too cheap or buy crap at walmart...you get what you get.

Denon is back making very good receivers now if you want to go that route. Good 4K video/HDMI switching is a must if you are running receivers. Separates are the way to go for HT but most can't afford good ones so receivers it is for the majority of the public.

Also remember...99% of all receivers under a certain price level are assembly-line malasia/Taiwan crap. If you care about discrete circuitry and power you'll have to spend a bit. I can give you price levels and recommendations if you like.

Paradigm makes very good 5.1 speakers packages (with sub) that are affordable and accurate for HT.

Do NOT buy Bose, Klipsch, Polk or cheap speakers of the like. Junk.

Spend a little money and get some decent sound quality you won't regret it.

PM me directly if you want more advice.

What kind of OLED did you buy? Did you research the image retention/ghosting issues?

https://www.paradigm.com/en/

I just set up this receiver and some Paradigm Premier series speakers for a buddy here in RD...brutally happy with it but not super cheap. There are lower-level receivers and speakers to fit basically all budgets.

If you can, stay away from soundbars and Home Theater in a box from Costco/Walmart and those places. Again...if you go too cheap with sound...you get what you get.

Bought the LG C9 from amazon. 0% financing over 6 months, was too hard to pass up with two kids. 120hz refresh rate but it has gsync and hdmi 2.1 so its futureproof. As for sound, I keep seeing sound bars are the worst investment so I'll look 5.1 or 7.1. Will probably go to costco for it, cause you're right, return policy is stupid good

How much you want to spend on sound? Paradigm speakers with an anthem or marantz amp are nice you can spend anywhere from entey level to sky is the limit but the sound is exceptional. They make movie theaters sound fuzzy. Just stay away from over marketed crap like bose and klipsche etc. Paradigm is a very nice all around speaker again depending on the level you wanna spend at

All good info, and yes please PM me more about the good brands and models for surround sounds. I know very little and havent put in the time yet.

I researched burn in and it only seems to be an issue if you watch shows like CNN or FOX where the little logo is in the same bottom corner, and you need to be watching it for like 24 hours straight to get burn in. Its 99% fixed through all OLEDs and if it does happen, it usually goes away within 24-48 hrs (no longer permanent)

Went with the LG C9

A reasonable amount (take what you will from that). Its not a huge priority now so I'll save up a bit and get it whenever I can. Dont want shotty sound though so I'm willing to pay more

Sound quality like the lord said is pretty tied in with price. Do the seperates det an avr and some speakers. Entry level paradigm wont blow the bank and will smoke all that costco crap. We arent even talking the same universe. Their warraanty department is excellent if somethimg goes wrong. When I build my first house we put in a theater room with a 12 foot screen essentially. Our sound package was about 12k and it could compete with stuff way above that price point. That being said you can spend probanly around 2k im guessing and get an incredible system maybe 3500 id go into the premier series. The lord will take care of you im sure

You’re going to get a lot of advice on sound. to some, sound is everything. To me it’s not as important as picture quality. Having a family, we watch a lot of kids stuff. Now much sound definition do you need watching Cars for the hundredth time?
