He's probably depth on most teams that are competitive. I'm still not for drafting small defencemen unless they have attributes like Hughes.

Only 17 D 5'10" smaller in the NHL this season.

Only 32 5'11" D in the league this year.

Unless they are showing elite skill levels I wouldn't be picking any D under 6'

Stecher is one of those 'he's good if you don't notice him' kind of defensemen. Obviously, it's better to have talented players that chip in in all the areas, but with a salary cap, having a guy like Stecher not (frank)ing up a lot is decent value. +5 with 9 points for a 6D isn't bad.
