Carol Schram: Elias Pettersson sits out Canucks' loss in Minnesota with lower-body injury After picking up five points in the first three games of their latest road trip, the Vancouver Canucks finished up with a second-straight loss on Thursday in Minnesota, in a game where Elias Pettersson was a late scratch with a lower-body injury.

Thanks Carol. I don't think Van needs Simmonds. The state the team is currently in, they shouldn't be getting rid of any assets until summer/next season. That said, if the price for Simmonds was dirt cheap I'd have a tough time saying no, as he could be very helpful in the playoffs.

The team looked totally out of sync without Pettersson. Physically tired is just an excuse, they had plenty of rest in between games, mentally tired I can understand and agree with.

Markstrom was pretty average, can’t win with average goaltending, the outstanding play of our goaltenders masks our defensive deficiencies.

Thanks Carol.

I'm not for getting old rentals like Simmonds unless the price is less than a 4th round pick.

I believe Benning used to be interested in Miles Wood. Wood had a couple goals last night but that's someone I'd pay a bit extra for. 24 and under contract for another 2 years at 2.75 AAV

Maybe lightening strikes twice and get a player that explodes like Miller has.

I think the point is to get a playoff-hardened vet who plays a heavy game. Since his contract is up at the end of the season, not a huge investment. Maybe a 3rd and Baertschi to clear some salary. Or maybe Gadjovich and Baertschi......

Simmonds doesn’t play a “heavy” game, he’s a wirey 185 lbs FFS, Pettersson is 180 lbs.

He's aggressive. Stands in front of the net and takes abuse. I don't think he really fits into Van's style. I think he would struggle the same way he did in Nashville.

i wouldn't pay any sort of asset outside of a contract going the other way for him (LE, Baertschi). Hes a shade of his former self and I would take Zac Mac any day of the week on the 4th line rather than Simmonds.

Bearchease for Simonds straight across. If JB gives up anything more its clear he is back on a bender.

Rather see more of Zacmac and Bailey, than chase after a player like Simmonds. This is still a young team that needs to see what they have in some of these younger guys.

Either way they need to figure things out. Ferland's in limbo, prices are climbing. No to Simmond's, move on from Ferland.

I'd rather pay the bit extra for someone that is not a rental or older. Or as Ruby says give some of the Utica players some time to create some chemistry.

His best days are far behind him, he’ll still engage physically but he’s not near the player he used to be.

They need a younger nastier version, whoever that may be.

Agreed.
Be nice to see someone playing on Bo's line, instead of Loudini, as well. The guy played decent for a handful of games, but is back to his normal self again.

Yeah I agree, he's not what he used to be. That's not something Van needs to be chasing. His attitude might help some of the younger players but i'm pretty sure that's what Roussell and Beagle are for.

Ferlands brain is scrambled, one good hit and he’s done. I doubt he’ll engage physically like he used to with the threat of another head injury knocking on his door.

JB can make that happen, no problem. He just needs to wait right up to the TDL when prices are at their peak.

For Ferland's health, he should just stay on the injured list, the guy is going to screw himself up.
When you play a certain style, it is pretty hard to change.

Marcus Foligno?
Josh Anderson?
Sam Bennett?
Miles Wood?

Not a huge upgrade in the nastier department but certainly more imposing over some of the softies like LE.
