Big fuking deal, Thomas was 32 when he took over the Bruins starter job, 5 years later he's drinking from the Cup with a finals MVP in tow. Your formula has flaws. Starting with the fact you haven't a clue about the position.

Asset management says you trade him before you sign him to a long term deal. We’re not ready to compete for a Cup but a two year deal wouldn’t break my heart, unfortunately he ain’t signing a two year deal.

You go with a veteran backup and go with Demko, who’s more than capable.

I can cherrypick a bunch of young goaltenders who won with their young core as easily as anyone can cherrypick the one mid 30’s goaltender who’s won a Cup in the past ten years.

Quick was 25 & 27 when won with a team he was drafted and developed with. Crawford was 27 & 29 in the same situation. Fleury was 30 & 31 when he won his second and third Cups.

Well, in all fairness, you kind of ask for it by acting like it is outside of the realm of possibility. I just showed you it wasn't. You're welcome.

I believe I said a short term deal is ideal, long term not so much, unless you get lucky and he continues to play well, which I would bet he won’t. Demko’s seven years younger and a much better goaltender than Markstrom was at 24 years old. Only a fool can’t see his potential.

So we're banking on potential now.

I see 2 goalies, one has made great strides proving his ability to carry the team on the ice and in the room. Another hasn't started 50 games in his career, let alone 50 in a season, with some durability issues already cropping up.

Now if I'm reading your post correctly you want to run with the unproven and figure Marky's play is unsustainable....which only cements my opinion I stated earlier, you really have no idea what is happening back there. 4 or 5 years for Marky is what will get it done. I'm good with that as long as it isn't a high AAV. I think he's on a path that will see him get better as the D improves.

No...I said sign a veteran like Lehner for two years. Markstrom took over the #1 position with the Canucks with 107 games of NHL experience. 32 games is the most he’d ever played in a season.

Anymore than two years would be a huge mistake imo. If he signs for two years it’s all a moot point.

Sorry my bad. So trade Markstrom around the trade deadline because if we don't it's losing a number 1 Goalie for nothing when we don't resign him.

Sign Lehner in the summer, which may disrupt the room and team chemistry.

Run with Demko for the stretch run....hopefully finding a capable back-up in the process because DiPietro is still marinating.

Problem is this is the worst time to make a deal. Do you think this team really has a shot or do you make your adjustments in the summer?
- VanHockeyGuy

Makes no difference. Benning pays trade deadline prices in the summer, so whatever. Just do it.

For a guy with the name management in his user name, you seem to lack some basic management skills... you won’t get Markstrom for a “reasonable” cap hit and/or you are going to lose either Markstrom or Demko to Seattle unless you send some extra draft picks their way.

I loved Kirk McLean, but like trading Linden, it was the best thing for the team long term.

not sure about this story line.
plenty of goalies out there, Demko is not a slam dunk for the Krak.

I still say they miss the playoffs this year.

Yeah I'm sticking with 90-91 points. if they win 11-12 games in regulation and a few loser points they may get close to the mid 90's but for this weak ass division who knows. With Boeser now out and Petey playing hurt the next week could be rough.

I don’t know of many 30 year old goaltenders, 31 next season, who are a teams future. Do you watch hockey?

The prudent play is to trade Markstrom and sign Lehner for two years to tandem with Demko. Or something alone those lines. Asset management

- LeftCoaster

Or you can sign marky for 4 years till his 34 trade demko who will probably fetch more of a return and not worry about our goaltending for a few years hoping demko can do it. More ways than one to do this. The team plays for eachother lasr thing id wanna do is remove the guy who is playing like superman and his dad died from the group and ask them to go compete. So much more of a human element to hockey that qe often forget.

Seattle wont take Demko he isnt good enough.

My guess is a columbus goalie forsure and a colorado goalie. If tristan jarry isnt protected they will take him

Also sometimes asset management isnt just about selling stuff off amigo. Sometimes you have to know when to keep the asset. Assuming marky can be signed for 4 years at something reasonable why on earth would you remove something that fits. Its just idiotic

I was going to make a prediction on tonight's game but decided to wait until I see what James Tanner says first?

If he is not too busy maybe he can fix our cap problem too?

Somehow, but not shockingly, you've missed it. I'm not going back to explain, but there's plenty of Asset Management implications within my last statement to Lefty.
