Nice work Jan. Summed everything up nicely. Now the Rangers need to get refocused and back to winning. |

if Toronto and Carolina miss the playoffs, it's probably going to take the Rangers actually making it
but the lottery would be such a trainwreck if this happened, a fantastic train wreck |

seems like the Hurricanes will have to decide between Jake Gardiner or Brady Skjei as to who will be the third defenseman they protect in expansion draft
unless they expose both of them and protect Jake Bean |

I looked at it last night and it's possible they may go the 4x4 route, although I'm not sure who is exempt, etc. I'm just glad it's not the Rangers' problem anymore. |

Rangers just have to be careful they don't make the same mistake with Lindgren that they did with Skjei. A big reason why he was so good his rookie year is he was able to play behind players like McDonagh on the left side. Once the purge happened he became the defacto number 1 d man on the left side and that just isn't his game. Now with Skjei gone and only Staal and Smith behind him, Rangers are going to be putting a lot of pressure on Lindgren as a rookie on the left side. I might strongly consider giving someone like ADA a look on the opposite side.
This team is clearly showing the rebuild is behind them. They need to find an legit replacement on the left side in the summer. If they want to be considered a contender for a playoff spot they can't have Staal and Smith being 2/3rds of the left side next season. |

Nice writeup Jan, thanks for filling us in on all the details.
Jimmy, definitely a pipe dream but that would be hilarious if the lottery works out that way.
Matt, I feel better about Lindgren then I ever did Skjei. He brings something that Skjei never did in terms of physicality. I also don't think his first contract will be as expensive, but we'll see. |

Fair points.
I think ADA gets a look on the left again at some point too. |

I agree with this assessment, but I just feel like Lindgren is a completely different player than Skjei. I think what made Skjei so good at first was also kind of his downfall, he was sort of a jack of all trades, but master of none. He wasn't awful is any particular area, but I'm not sure of what he did best. Lindgren isn't great offensively, but he's going to be a stalwart nasty stay at home defender. He reminds me alot of when Staal was younger and I think he handles the puck quite a bit better than Staal ever did. I think the fact that he knows what his game is, will allow him to continue to grow and hold the fort down until our young guys come up.
I'm not sure how good Lindgren will be long term, but I don't think the same thing happens to him. The market is kinda biased against defensive types anymore and that might hold his contract down a bit too. |

I think we will drop off a little bit from Shesty to Georgie, but I think this team is rolling right now. Shesty for sure stole a couple games, but part of the reason we have our streak going is that as a team we really are just that much better than a couple months ago. I think we continue to play well and make a push |

Yea you are right, they play different styles. Maybe Lindgren is more suited to handle the pressure on the top D pair. He is still just a rookie though, just don't want to throw to much at him too fast. |

Also this will allow for ADA to get more minutes. He seems to be stuck behind Trouba and Fox on the Right side 5 on 5 |

You know it’s bad when the isles actually wanted parise on their roster |

Georgie played well on the road trip when Shesty was out. They're going to have to sort the d out. They were still bleeding shots during large stretches even while winning. That's the key to any run, IMO. |

I wasn't a big fan of the JG Pageau move either. They gave up a lot. Also his shooting percentage is way above his career norms this season. I don't think he is this type of a goal scorer long term over this new contract they gave him. Time will tell but just don't love the move. |

I’d prefer seeing Staal with Trouba. Staal has been fine this year and probably hasn’t played as much as he used to, so he may be fresher.
Smith - Trouba could be a disaster |

Great write up Jan.
I think Skjei (may this be the last time I type his name) will do well with a change of scenery. Still can't believe Gorton was able to get a 1st for him!
Almost as unbelievable is somehow the Devils were able to ship Simmonds to Buffalo! |

They gave up too much, but Pageau is going to be a pain in the arse for us as a 3C for years to come. They can roll 4 effective lines now though they still need some goal scoring. |

I think the main reason Staal has looked decent is he is playing more sheltered 3rd pair minutes. He is great on the PK cause he doesn't have to skate and he can just clear space and pucks from in front of the net. You play him bigger minutes with Trouba and then you are forcing him to skate more. I would keep him where he is. |
