This should give the Rangers options if they need to get out of the deal the last year or so of it |

how do see the Canes with the expansion draft at this point?
think they would protect Jake Bean over Skjei and Gardiner? |

and if there is another expansion draft from 2024-2026 Rangers won't be forced to protect him |

About half the deal in signing bonuses. $31.5 million of the $45.5 million the first four years of the contract. I would have preferred an NMC only the first three rather than the first five years and no NTC at all on back end. But NY still has options available in case they need to get out of the contract.

We will all hope that Kreider lives up to the entirety of the contract, but I just wonder how much of this contract was done thinking the next CBA might give teams another compliance buyout option. Think it's a stretch to say there is no risk and that's why they extended CK, but you just have to wonder if it's in the back of their heads. |

NOTE: This is an ACADEMIC discussion. I am not trying to get rid of a guy that just signed.
Don't the signing bonuses make any buyout almost impossible? I think that's what I remember from ROR's contract. I guess the flipside is that he's tradable based on actual money owed, but then the NTC could be a problem depending on how many teams there are.

I think it's more likely that they believe the cap will be going up significantly in the coming years and at that point 6.5 mil won't be considered that high anymore |

Probably. Though I think they'd rather trade one of them because they'll need the cap space (that's still so weird to say)

Isn't the next CBA up after next season? If there plan was always to use a potential buyout on him it would have just made way more sense to trade him when his value was at its highest. |

Friedman talked about that on the radio a few weeks back. No buyout expected in new CBA, BUT, due to the new TV contract, the cap is expected to jump to $90 million or higher in 2021-2022 (will only go up slightly this summer). Thus, teams will have plenty of room even with bad contracts. |

It was extended three more seasons, so we still have 2 years left. |

Man can we not deal with another 10:30am to 11am time frame like we had yesterday? I can't remember the last time I was so stressed with the Rangers. Literally had no clue what was going on, speculations were running wild |

Rangers just have to be careful they don't make the same mistake with Lindgren that they did with Skjei. A big reason why he was so good his rookie year is he was able to play behind players like McDonagh on the left side. Once the purge happened he became the defacto number 1 d man on the left side and that just isn't his game. Now with Skjei gone and only Staal and Smith behind him, Rangers are going to be putting a lot of pressure on Lindgren as a rookie on the left side. I might strongly consider giving someone like ADA a look on the opposite side.
This team is clearly showing the rebuild is behind them. They need to find an legit replacement on the left side in the summer. If they want to be considered a contender for a playoff spot they can't have Staal and Smith being 2/3rds of the left side next season. - TPC

when the smoke had cleared the NYR had made some definitive positions going fwd.
1.Re- Build is over
2. Skjei after NOT finding it w/Troubs DONE,A dA may be a great upgrade for him & team & open up Trouba ?didnt understand burning 2 moves on Howden & Gauthier to be eligible for AHL ? maybe Gauthier ?Hiajk -Rykov ? nows the time to make a promotion ,not use a retread like Smith & throw the dice ,okSMith maybe for tonite as to NOT start a new guy with fish hds hunting us at home .
Skjei was a great trade in many ways( cap & future )liked him alot ,sorry
3.HanK? hope he gets into the P O fray , deserves to finish now with shesty down, next yr is a foregone conclusion as part of the necessary money moves to get thru 1 mor cap close season....
4. CAP issues ? isnt it amazing how Pitts G m houdini's it & stocks his team for a great chance at a run & who knows ,we have to do it for 1 more season & then we have a complete control of the cap |

unless they elect arbitration, I get the feeling that this summer will be a long drawn out negotiation with both deAngelo and Strome |

I should have been more clear. My hope is they do deals now and not wait until summer. Same next year with Buch, Shesty, Lindgren and Chytil. |
