I always wondered why half the people despise a young winger who puts up 65 points a year, top 30 scoring winger in the nhl the last 2 seasons


because our former gm took him instead of leon



this team stinks to high hell over the last 10 plus seasons and he is only of the few bright spots we have on this roster

I still believe Sam gets over $7m in his new contract. Assuming 6 years or more for term, and him being around 65 pts....nothing new there from me.

I would be open to the GM trading Sam, if
- the GM acquires another 1 or 2 suitable for 1RW and/or 2RW
- the acquired player is in a position of need 2C or 1RhD.

Most of the premise around sam is the whole coattails riding off of eichel.

You know the part where posters suggest he has good point totals because he plays 1rw with a top 3 nhl center.

But no one besides Skinner has been able to play with him & have remotely close to this type of success

Because we dont have any RWs in the system, unless you're a fan of the tallman or if Cozens is a RW instead of a center, but that presents its own problems with the lineup.

Our 2nd best RW is Okposo

No, overpaying isn’t ideal
Botts & Kruger should’ve been on the same page & it should’ve been Sam on line2 this season instead of Skinner, but we can’t fix that now

I think the reason people were willing to give Botterill the benefit of the doubt on Skinner is that he was supposedly the cap expert that was able to figure out a way to add a very expensive Phil Kessel and win 2 cups while having Crosby, Malkin and Letang on mega deals. That is what essentially made him the top GM candidate the year the Sabres hired him.

That narrative has died a slow death this year - It's painfully obvious he had nothing to do with that roster's salary cap. He was the GM of Wilkes-Barre, not Pittsburgh.

People assume though we’d be dealing him for a 7th round pick not using him to try to upgrade down the middle so it’s a moot point

If we are doing "ifs" Reinhart with 50 pts and Jack is probably 30-35 pts without him. That is no barnburner. That is bordering on Skunk for a 2nd overall.

Had nothing to do with Ennis specifically. My overall argument is wingers can be replaced and acquired quite frequently and produce if they have a good Center. I was hoping to buy low On Burakovsky for a while and had Donskoi as a FA target of ours this offseason.
