Well, if you find a GM that's worth even half his salt, these stated issues go away. You may need to trade good players in the process, but finding a guy who actually understands value AND can draft talent is tantamount. All we have now is whitebread Doug Whaley running the Sabres.
Somehow, Tampa is able to keep a bunch of great players. If they can do it, so can Buffalo (theoretically) - TheSabresTaco
Last night was the last straw for me. You decide to become a buyer, albeit not a significant one, to line up for a much-less-than-likely playoff push, only to lose 4 games in a row and put yourself out of the race a week later. Tim Murray was not a good general manager, but somehow Jason Botterill created a worse team over three years, and that's even when you consider a Murray year where they intentionally became the worst team in the league. |

Hey, Coach Krueger, you have led this hockey team to the 7th worst record in the National Hockey League. We're going to promote you to oversee the entire organization as a reward.
I long for the day when this fanbase demands greatness from its teams, and not just hopes for it. - buffalofan19
Or,
Hey Ralph, our dimwit GM miscast you as a HC when clearly your talents are proven to be exceptional in a CEO/President level role. Clearly, we could use help in all areas of the team, and leverage your seven years of turning around another large professional sports team by properly choosing executives below your level to run the various departments of the organization...something we have struggled with for 9 years. We could use your help running it all...would you accept President of the Buffalo Sables reporting to ownership with everything Sabres related under you...PLEASE? |

jordan gambled away all his money then literally quit and switched to baseball to dodge punishment from the NBA
and you dolts think eichel is too salty to be great or something - robz228
So your saying eichel is better than michael jordan ?
Jordan - 179 career playoff games 6 championships
Eichel- 0 career playoff games 0 championships
And gambled all his $ away. That cant be a leader?
Maybe jack gambles his $ money and signs with the bisons because he's too salty?

HeY, sam reinhart, you have led the hockey team to 7th worst record in the nhl. And (not just this year, but the previous 6 seasons before krueger) we're going to give you a raise a double your contract.

Werner Herzog could make an excellent documentary about this.
"Between the polluted, frozen bank of the Buffalo River and the foot of Washington St. sits one of the most profound examples of the callous, indifferent and often cruel nature of our universe: the Buffalo Sabres. This is the epicenter of suffering" |

You know I am hesitant to give Reinhart a long term deal.
However, coaches ultimately get evaluated by wins and losses.
Players get evaluated based on the scoresheet.
Say what you will about Reinhart, but he has delivered there for the most part. Krueger has not in the wins and losses aspect.
It's not even apples and oranges. It's apples and a pile of scrap paper. |

Well its a strange setup. Southampton would never be a championship team. Their goal is to be a farm team who sells young players for profit.
Unless a la manchester city, you get new billionaire owners who just buy success, theres generally a we-know-our-role thing in the premier league. |

To me, that's even less of a reason to promote him. It says his job was to make the team an "also ran" that wasn't in danger of relegation. The Sabres are already that. |

Bills DC Leslie Frazier has been promoted to assistant head coach.
Frazier will keep his duties as defensive coordinator, but he'll have a bigger overall role within the organization. From ownership to general manager to head coach, the Bills are building a stable team, and recognizing top assistants continues to build that chemistry. Frazier has interviewed for head-coaching gigs in recent years and may get more chances this offseason if the Bills can repeat their defensive success from 2019. |

Players get evaluated on the scoresheet.
Players also get evaluated on speed, leadership, effort, size, compete level, making teammates better and winning.
It's an easy way out just comparing goals, assists and points. They are right on the paper in front of us.

I don't subscribe to the theory that Jason realistically thought he could win. Kahun was a smart play for a pair of walks. He's worth much more than the picks he could have gotten.
Simmonds is a presence that is required for this team, that basically came for free w/ a 20 game tryout.
He did absolutely nothing to suggest that he was 'serious'. These were team building moves, bringing in another middle 6 scorer for the future and a physical, leader presence. The Frolik move was bizarre. The pick is worth more than the player.
All in all, Jason Botterill, over his entire tenure, has failed this franchise. And if our owners had a sack, they'd can him immediately following the season. |

My point is that, at the very least, you can make the argument for signing Reinhart long-term based on his production. It's not an airtight argument, but at least a competent one.
There is much less precedent for giving Ralph Kruger the keys to the entire operation than there is for giving Sam Reinhart a long-term deal, and to me, neither one is a good idea.
