My point is that, at the very least, you can make the argument for signing Reinhart long-term based on his production. It's not an airtight argument, but at least a competent one.
There is much less precedent for giving Ralph Kruger the keys to the entire operation than there is for giving Sam Reinhart a long-term deal, and to me, neither one is a good idea. - buffalofan19
I see what your saying , might be a bit early to judge a coach 65 games in. He does have upper management experience and seems respected universally.

I don't subscribe to the theory that Jason realistically thought he could win. Kahun was a smart play for a pair of walks. He's worth much more than the picks he could have gotten.
Simmonds is a presence that is required for this team, that basically came for free w/ a 20 game tryout.
He did absolutely nothing to suggest that he was 'serious'. These were team building moves, bringing in another middle 6 scorer for the future and a physical, leader presence. The Frolik move was bizarre. The pick is worth more than the player.
All in all, Jason Botterill, over his entire tenure, has failed this franchise. And if our owners had a sack, they'd can him immediately following the season. - TheSabresTaco

A little projection for cap space next year
$34m in space
$7 - Reinhart
$5 - Montour
$4 - Olofsson
$3 - Kahun
$4 - pick 2 of our 6 Larrys
I think those are pretty conservative. Now you have $10-12m to fill 2 second line and 1 third line spots
- jcragcrumple
Dylan Cozens costs $950K
Moving Risto out for a forward is cash in and cash out.
Leaves you $10M to find a goalie and another forward.
Spend to the cap.

The Sabres should treat Cozens like hes stranded in the Yukon for the winter.
Assemble your team as if you dont need him, and if he's too good to be denied in training camp, then waive or trade a 4th liner to make room for him |

So when you spend to the cap this year, how much room do you have to sign another huge contract?
Can't wait to scrub in a bunch of nobodies again for half the roster. |

I am still holding out a probably delusional hope that some cap floor team will take on Okposo after the season he is having. His cap hit will exceed his salary if the Sabres pay his $3 million bonus. |

If owners had a sack, they’d have paid ROR’s bonus and taken the better offer.

Of course it was.
It was also the right call to move someone who didn’t want to be here and orchestrated his way out. This was after the players basically United to get Bylsma fired and everyone thought they were running the show.
The issue has been the refusal to pony up to replace him.
Teams lose players all the time for no return
Tavares in Ny walked
Panarin walked
Taylor Hall was traded (from EDM) for a #4 D man
It doesn’t have to be a death sentence |

I would assume with the expansion draft in mind you’ll see many UFA’s sign a one year deal so they won’t just be exposed.
Or you can factor in that Mojo and McCabe come off the books and the cap is going to rise this year and next |

It was trash day in St. Louis and the Sabres picked up the trash and dropped off ROR. It's not that he could have done better it's he SHOULD have done better but I agree with what you are saying. |

Name a few that do both (play physical and defense) who are locked in at 5 million. A player that does not cost assets and wants to play in buffalo.
I'll be waiting .... |

Isnt this what you complained about?
Sabres resigned everyone
Sabres tries to give casey, tage, joker, olo and pilut an opportunity
Then traded erod and sheary (4th liners)
Can't have it both ways

WE. SUCK. THE END!
I want fun, entertaining hockey. North and South, fast paced. Look at the Avs and the way the Jets play. Both teams have young role players but play north and south. They show puck possession is vital to zone entries, SOG's etc. They play a relentless, heavy game that translates to success for their clubs.
The Sabres have not shown an ounce of this play more than a handful of times this year. They always look outmatched (because they are), out-possessed in puck possession and out skated up and down the ice.
I feel like we constantly search for answers. Does it start from the top down? Yes, but I feel that this "core" of players that we have need to be let go and we start over the right way. Shoot, Ottawa is doing it right and they have shown to be better than us this year and they have NOBODY besides Ryan and Tkachuk.
Guys, I come to vent and share my frustrations. And, here we are... |
