Getting Toffoli in the offseason and trading for a rental while the Titanic is going down are two completely separate things.
- Pegullaville

no not really, you would still complain he got 6 or 7 mill a year.

Someone said earlier that Risto WAS being shopped..

to be fair

same stories have been said with similar players every year since briere and drury left

Everyone is free to have their own opinion and I completely understand the pessimism and negative energy because we aren’t in a good place right now.

I still think the future is bright, I don’t know if Botts is the guy to lead us out of the abyss but I’m not going to sit here and complain about adding a Dylan Cozens last year and another appealing prospect this year.

We may look back on Botts’ tenure and be appreciative of the fact that although he wasn’t able to get it right, we were hopefully able to build a long term core.

It’s all in the hands of the amateur scouting department and our pro development staff at this point.

Dylan Cozens costs $950K

Moving Risto out for a forward is cash in and cash out.

Leaves you $10M to find a goalie and another forward.

Spend to the cap.

Lehner wants a number one job and fits nicely in at 6 to 7 mil for 4 years.

If we are able to acquire a Center to go along with Toffoli then I’m all for it. There isn’t much a difference in my eyes between Skinner and Toffoli except one will come in and the cap hit he should be making and the other is $2M overpaid.

if botts gets another season, it will be up to casey and cozens to save it

if we miss the playoffs next season, it will tie longest drought ever and be the second longest drought without a series win

I'm not trying to act like this is the plan, to be 25th again.
But:
I think this next offseason with all the contracts and $ available, Sabres could make serious moves.

Especially if there's new management. Regardless of these past 9 years, we have 2 solid necessities in place.

If the Sabres do fire JB they better not get a first-timer or former Sabre.

Edmonton did the right thing in hiring Ken Holland not sure if there is someone comparable to him. No more learning on the job and using the Sabres as trial and error while that person gets up to speed.

Matt Barzal’s draft +1 year he averaged 1.51 points per game

Cozens draft + 1 year he is currently averaging 1.69 points per game.

What does this mean in the grand scheme of things ? Possibly not much. Barzal ended up playing another year in the WHL and put up 2.0 PPG and they are ultimately different style players but it’s not impossible that Cozens can come in and put up 40 points next year

Maybe I'm being a complete homer, but this seems like a great job to walk into.

Eichel, dahlin - with out having to actually go thru the losing.

How desirable is the Sabres gm job?

I wonder if Lehner will come back to the environment where he had a terrible experience psychologically and chemically. I bet no.

100% I don’t believe for a second that Botts thought he’d be sitting here with a shot at finishing bottom 7, however he didn’t make any moves that suggested he was going for broke this year either. He most likely expected we would at least be in the thick of things and this season would be a positive step forward.

I’d rather pick top 7th than 12th so even though I’m slightly disappointed they didn’t hit my projections of where I thought we’d finish this year I’m happy to get another crack at a high end talent.

I'm scared that someone might feel pressured into moving the pick to speed things up. I think that would be foolish.

Solid post pegs

We have to think the plan was to play meaningful march games.

Well, they have all the money and resources they want and need - plus

Eichel and Dahlin - Plus

Cozens, Mitts could make the middle strong - plus

The D has a lot of depth - plus

Ukko might be a good goalie of the future, - Plus

Another top draft pick this year - Plus

Lack of top 9 quality forwards - Minus

Forward prospect pipeline lite- Minus

City (some players don't want to play here) - Minus

Not a lot of trade capital - Minus

Last two GM's were fired rather quick - Minus

There are more to add just some things I thought of
