IMO that should be cause for termination, horrible judgement not to at least test the market.
I'm not so sure that his game has improved as much as the team's game improved.
The eye test still shows getting lost in the Dzone and having a subpar transition game.
He has shown more physicality however, and I do love his PP game down low, he has added value there for sure.
They absolutely NEED to shop him this offseason, as well as Montour and Miller...NOT to trade them ALL, but to find the absolute best value(s) to acquire that 2C needed for next 2 years or so.

Botts made some good moves, some ok moves and some bad moves. All GMs do. But what truly matters is how he makes all of the pieces he brings in and/or keeps gel together for success. He's had three offseasons and we're exactly where we started. Having no prospect pool has damaged our chances of success. But there's no reason that improvement should have been impossible, especially with the growth of our good players.

First and foremost, I love Cozens and think extremely highly of him.

Second, when the offer is for a guy who is a clear 1C and can play one of the best 2 way games in the league and is on a great contract, you move your best prospect for him.

Sure. Bring back Lehner to play 82 games then. Very few goalies, if any, would want to be his partner from what I hear. In his own mind his value is around 8 to 10 mil so he’s a one man show.

All very good points. I am not an advocate for change just to change. So, for everyone who has a better grasp on possible GMs, who is out there? Who do you THINK the Pegulas could take a run at to try and get them to come here?

If the Pegulas decide to retain him, it will be his drafting that will ultimately be the factor as to whether he has long term success. Next season is where his first draft class really has a chance to do something.

Anthony Sciandra (DBTB) uses the term "witchcraft" to predict who will be good at being the GM. I tend to agree. You can have pedigree or not, and there's no proof that says you will succeed or fail.

Some rehires become great, some fail. Same with new guys. Tim Murray was a failure after being an AGM. David Poile was a success after having the same position.

No one actually knows. Are there candidates? Sure, there's always candidates. Look at every single AGM in the league. Look at some hockey ops presidents. Look at some GMs from juniors. Look at some ex-GMs.

Botts and Kreuger will be here next year.

People need to get used to it.
