Some rehires become great, some fail. Same with new guys. Tim Murray was a failure after being an AGM. David Poile was a success after having the same position.

No one actually knows. Are there candidates? Sure, there's always candidates. Look at every single AGM in the league. Look at some hockey ops presidents. Look at some GMs from juniors. Look at some ex-GMs.

Just need to consider the types of people you hire. Hiring guys with different philosophies every couple years is going to obliterate the roster continuity. And yes, that matters.
