Where did I imply that risto asking for a trade equates to being shopped?
Lockport for sure - Boss34
well you have posted 1,300 times that risto asked for a trade, when people "say" botts is shopping risto
nothing more, nothing less
just a response to your post |

Some posters think risto is a very bad hockey player and the Sabres will never win with him in a Sabres uniform.
They feel like Botterill should share their opinions and of course he would be offered as trade bait.
I like risto. Like what he said the other day in regards to playing for the city ect. Bs or. Not - Boss34
It's really a moot point now.
There was this 3 year (ish) window where the sabres had a real chance to be smarter than everyone else. Statistically, Risto was really bad. Eye test showed that at best he was a very flawed player. Yet he had a perception around the league as a great young player on a team friendly deal. For that period of time a trade could have been made that would have brought in talent this organization desperately needed.
The thing is, eventually the league caught up. Go into another team's board and suggest any trade with Risto in it. No one wants him. So now you might as well keep him as an average player on your below average team.
But two years ago, a real GM could have made that opportunity into something. |

barkov has 2 years left then he walks
eichel has 6 years left on his deal
and barkov was much better last season
jack took a huge step this season, up til recent slump might be the most improved player in the entire NHL this season - homiedclown
Most improved player in the nhl?
Most raiders fans would agree.

eichel's 2 way game is miles ahead of last season
last season he was a floating center that was in the 15-8 range for best centers
now you can easily make a claim he is a top 3 center in the nhl
shame it's another wasted year |

spector posts what other people are saying and gives them credit
nothing more, nothing less
not sure how this turned into a spector bash - homiedclown
I'm saying I doubt Florida trades Barkov.
It's not that I hate Spector, it's that his quotes are meaningless. Spector quotes someone suggesting maybe if this season doesn't go well the owner might want to do something and maybe that something could include a list of players and one of those players is Barkov. Its him reposting pure speculation.
Now suddenly people think they can package Okposo and Mittelstadt and some future firsts for one of the best centers in the league. |

And every one of those coaches have been fired except for Krueger. If you're a coach that insists on playing Ristolainen more than any other defenseman, it means you're not a very good coach. - buffalofan19
Risto continues to be the Sabres best option for big minutes on defense.
Thats why coaches continue to play him.
That may also say something about the lack of talent surrounding risto.
He has been the best option - thus the #1 defenseman |

The win column begs to differ. The definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over and expect a different result. Giving Ristolainen the biggest minutes proves this in spades. |

I couldn't care less what the guy says. I care about what he does on the ice, which, for his entire career, has led to more negative plays than positive ones by a mile. JP Losman always "said the right things" when he was with the Bills, too. It did not change the fact that he was a lousy quarterback, and had a lower football IQ than a rock. - buffalofan19
So your saying the Bill's never shopped jp losman for a trade?
Risto is a good player. Agree to disagree. |

Barkov had an incredible year last year and was probably the most dominant 200 foot Center in the entire NHL. This year he has taken a step back while Eichel has turned it up a few notches.
Getting Barkov now would be the equivalent of getting Kopitar in his prime. - Pegullaville

Other than Eichel or Dahlin, you give Florida whatever they want, whenever they want it, if they offer you Barkov, even if it means a non-lottery-protected first. |

Literally the only proof Risto defenders have that he is the best option for playing big minutes is that he plays big minutes.
Go compare how he does penalty killing, defensive zone faceoffs, end of games with the lead, etc. His numbers (and not the silly complicated ones, his goals against) are bad all across the board.
Basically, the argument for playing risto 22+ minutes a night is that he always has been played that long. There is zero other support for it. Jokiharju is better in defensive situations. McCabe is slightly better but not very good either. Montour hasn't been good but he's still better than Risto.

That's the thing. All stats, traditional, advanced, and the ones the three-year-old next door scribbles in his coloring book, point to this same conclusion. |
