It amazes me how you but also many on this board want to jettison young talent. I can at least understand Myers, the contract is high. But it’s not like he’s underperforming, were kinda getting what we thought we would and im surprised people are upset.
We finally have good young depth for the first time in about 8 years, so let’s trade the depth away!? - neem55
Trading Jake makes no sense at all, he's a good 20 goal middle six guy who can move up and down the lineup as needed. Some nights he's our best player. He was a bad 6th overall pick but he's still a valuable depth player.
Anyone can be moved for the right price but I don't see how jettisoning him makes the team better at this point. It's guys like Beagle and Roussel you want to get rid of, they're declining while Jake is slowly but surely getting better all the time. |

Yes and no....without the world class goaltending this is not even a bubble team, so we're not really what they/we thought we were. |

I also agree with that, Jake + C prospect and maybe a low draft pick could net us a decent D-man like Severson in NJ or something of that ilk. We have enough forwards in the system to give up on Jake and not hurt that much. And Jake /= Cam Neely, different time and different circumstances. - DariusKnight
Severson is one-dimensional dogshyte, another dman who isn’t good at defending yay! Why not just sogn a decent defensive dmanto replace fantenburg. |

The issue is we're too close to being a contender and we have holes, we have forward depth with Pod and Hog coming and can replace those 20 goals. What we don't have is a D-core that can defend and clear the net. Myers is a stopgap, but we need younger and better options back there. That'll take more than Beagle and Roussel as they have little to no value other than cap dumps. |

How easy do you think it is to move a guy like Beagle though? Most teams are going to be looking at cap dollars . If you did move him what would the return be? |

Exactly my opinion. And i do get the idea of him getting paid being scary, but you’re paying a 22 year old with upside nit some above 30 year old who is past his best playing days. |

We're not even close to being a contender, put the pipe down. Without Markstrom's goaltending we'd be a bottom ten team.
Secondly, the only way Pod and Hog take someone's spot is if they earn it, we don't even know if they'll be NHL players at this point. Everyone was so excited with Dahlen and Goldy, how'd that turn out. You get an NHL job when you push someone out the door not when you get drafted. |

I don't think Beagle is trade-able with his price tag and limited role. Another improve now, pay for it later move by that genius Benning. |

Myers is our 4th guy. That’s what i thought we were getting. I think a lot of people thought that’s what we were getting. I agree that it’s not a great top 4, but quinny will get better. I would sign an older depth d man to improve the PK and replace fantenburg. Other than that, the young guys are coming and we need to be patience. I like the forward group, especially if Toffi comes back |

Don't know, a lot of what if's in there...he makes 2.2 million next year so maybe a bottom team looking for that kind of player with a cap hit of 3 million would be interested. It's just tiresome having to deal with Benning's bad contract's on a continual basis.
Every signing he makes is for the NOW, very little foresight on that man. |

Absolutely third line, that's a complete no brainer, he was 7th in scoring for the team and he's a major possession driver. |

I get why you guys think that , I really do.
There are players waiting in the wings that are close . At this point you don't want to or need to rush them
Rafferty OJ Lind Rathbone Pod Hoglander Briesbois are guys ready or close to making the jump.
It is time to definitely time to start moving some anchors out.

Leivo, Roussel, Beagle and Motte all need to be shown the door. Sutter would be a great 4th line center and PK guy, even if he's way over-paid. |

When those guys earn a spot in camp the GM has to have the foresight to be in a position to move on from the guys beat out, that's not Benning's MO...he's always being reactive to those situations instead of proactive. |

It could happen .
Zack was playing there at the end of the season , I guess we wait and see.
They have to move players out no doubt. |

If Jake was really in their future plans, they would have resigned him midseason to a 3-4 year contract to take him to UFA and avoid having to go the arbitration route. Once he invokes his rights, Benning is screwed, he either accepts whatever the arbitrator awards him on a 1 year deal, or walks away and gets nothing for him. I'd rather package him up with something and get a decent 2-3-4 D-man with upside than keep him and potentially lose TT or worse yet, Markstrom. |
