Save the compliance buyout and do a reciprocating deal with some other team where you trade and then re-sign Myers post-buyout like Washington did with Brooks Orpik. Canucks would use their buyout on whoever the other team sends back in exchange for Myers.

Could free up about $10MM to $11MM in cap space for a couple of years. More importantly, you'd be freeing up $4MM - $5MM in years 3-5 of Myers' contract and he'd be more movable or easier to be bought out again down the road as he declines.

Not sure what the motivation is for teams to trade each others players they then will compliance buy out.

Myers is a popular target because he has the biggest AAV plus longest term. But he's bringing value to the team. That analysis by the Athletic article lays it out.

By years 3-5 all the other fat vet contracts will be gone and Canucks will have a lot ELC's So is all that Myers' finessing really necessary?

Hardly saw any hockey the past 8 weeks let alone the stoppage cutting out games. Saw parts of maybe 3-4 games. Stats yes but not really any clue what really was going on.
