Ep is in the Lark/Aho/Barzal class - he will get somewhere between 9-10 depending on term and what the cap is at signing. I also think Hughes will get around 8-9 depending on how he does next season. |

He’s making a strange case about resigning him. I said that cuz i 100% disagree with him. |

If the cap goes up $5 m it will also be easier. - 1970vintage
Okay so you're using hyberbole to make the point things will be difficult and teams will suffer. Though, when the league starts up again, its not a situation of lets get teams in line from over spending on players like a lock out situation. It will be about how to generate revenue with an exciting product on ice. Entice people to buy in the challenge of world wide recovery.
So wherever the cap ends up going down there will likely be measures to help teams keep players they want and shed players they don't to make the product on ice better. Compliance buyouts are one tool. That's a logical deduction and not a surety of course.
I wouldn't even be surprised if the teams like the Canucks get the NHL to remove the cap recapture penalty. As those type of contracts are no longer possible there is no harm to the league but present harm to teams trying to recover. The case can be made that penalty hampers the new goals of the league in the wake of the pandemic shutdown and its economic repercussions. |

Because other than goal-scoring (which I admit AM has him beat) EP is showing signs that he's better in every way. Better at playmaking, faceoffs, two-way center and doesn't get drunk and get caught with a DUI - DariusKnight
If Jim is looking at giving Petey over 10 mil then he is nuts . I would look at bridge deal in the 7 range |

Top goal scorers get paid more than play makers and two way players. EP is not good at face offs regardless of being a bit better than AM so that is not going to earn him millions. Think about it... Miller is taking almost all his face offs... so why would EP earn big money on face offs? Also, giving a player more money because you doubt he'd get in trouble with the police doesnt really seem in the mix of negotiation points.
EP will get paid big, no doubt.

Bridge deals for Petey & Hughes are real possibilities. Cap situation will be the decider for either or both of them. Brock got a middlin deal on $ & term. |

He doesn’t even take faceoffs, Miller does 99% of the time. |

Next year has a real possibility of being played to empty buildings . The needle on the cap might barely move next year . |

I think you're missing the point, he's going to be paid for what he is likely going to achieve, which has him on a path that will be far better than AM even though I agree with you that AM /right now/ is the better player and likely better goal scorer over his career. Which is why I say he will likely get AM money even though /right now/ he is not in AM's class. This is the way the NHL has worked /up until now/. COVID-19 might push it down somewhat, but he's still going to be one of the highest paid forwards in the NHL when he eventually signs his next contract. |

I think a hefty bridge deal is more likely.
Say 3/8m. Now if he goes out & gets 90+ pts that could mean 8/10m. |

Not to be the downer of the party but I don't see how GMs come out offering 2017-18 salaries.
The NHL is going to take an ass kicking in lost revenues. If Governments are saying this could take 18-24 months how do you get people into the stadiums .
I have no idea what the cap will look like in two years but I would put money on that the huge contract days might be a thing of the past. |

#Canucks winger Tanner Pearson is asked about how much contact he's had with Tyler Toffoli, and sort of stick handles his teammates pending unrestricted free agency.

Hence compliance buy-outs. and they may need to get creative with massive deals like McDavids. |
