Idk why but I’m thinking players will take more team fair contracts if they want to win a cup here in VanCity. Not a big shave but enough to avoid the Leaf like imbalance. It will come down to JB/Gear pushing this point as in BB signing for what he did. JV will be the next up in this process. Toffoli is harder to gauge but I think he likes West coast living & if he really likes this roster a fair deal will get done.

Hence compliance buy-outs. and they may need to get creative with massive deals like McDavids.

Compliance buy outs give you breathing room this year. I can tell you I am not attending any games next year . I may retire now so I won't be buying merchandise.

I think on the other side of this lock down there will be a lot of changes. I don't know what they will be but I am sure there will be change.

If Canucks did play at Rogers arena in August I don't know if there will be 18 000 fans sitting beside each other .

Okay so you're using hyberbole to make the point things will be difficult and teams will suffer. Though, when the league starts up again, its not a situation of lets get teams in line from over spending on players like a lock out situation. It will be about how to generate revenue with an exciting product on ice. Entice people to buy in the challenge of world wide recovery.

So wherever the cap ends up going down there will likely be measures to help teams keep players they want and shed players that don't to make the product on ice better. Compliance buyouts are one tool. That's a logical deduction and not a surety of course.

I wouldn't even be surprised if the teams like the Canucks get the NHL to remove the cap recapture penalty. As those type of contracts are no longer possible there is no harm to the league but present harm to teams trying to recover. The case can be made that penalty hampers the new goals of the league in the wake of the pandemic shutdown and its economic repercussions.

I'm not reading that from Vintsy, he didn't like the trade at this time in Canucks rebuild\non-rebuild period the team is in.

If Toffoli could be had for a modest pay increase Vintsy would be a happy camper, if I am correctly interpreting his posts.

True this is a shut down of unknowns. Unlike lock outs of the past changes will have to be inventive and stimulative. The goal will be to keep teams competitive to get fan buy ins from a bleak socio-economic situation.

You can do better then that with a thought out hockey oriented response instead of joining the clown squad who rather (frank) around then generate hockey related commentary.

If Jim is looking at giving Petey over 10 mil then he is nuts . I would look at bridge deal in the 7 range

I think that you’re roght that players have lost a lot of leverage. Owners are taking a big hit and it will effect the cap/salaries. Going to be interesting! I suspect a compliance buyout, fixes a lot of issues and makes some of that money back

I could, but it isn't worth it. You are dismissing one thing and proposing several other things that are just as outrageous like they are "likely".

I agree, a compliance buyout would be nice for fans of teams to get rid of guys they don't like, and it would be nice for GM's to undo one (some) of the mistakes they've made, but how does spending millions of dollars on an employee who isn't going to work for you anymore solving the problem of owners taking a serious hit in their finances? Make some of that money back?

Was sarcasm. It seems you rather walk away from Toffoli & ignore his value hence the cost of Madden/2nd is huge.

Compliance buy outs are outrageous? Changing the economic formula for the cap and/or penalties on it to keep teams competitive was presented as speculation. But that's where we are with theses unprecedented unknowns.

Its a small price in the long term if getting rid of overpaid players allows the team to be competitive and/or generate excitement for the fans to buy in. In the aggregate the NHL benefits from casual fans enjoying a better product enough to pay attention too.

As much as you want to punish the mistakes of GM's the NHL isn't returning from a lock out situation. So wouldn't there be measures to create relief?

no, that's still not it.

What I'm saying, is don't consider the "Madden and a 2nd" when deciding to re-sign Toffoli. If the price to get him under contract is too high, in either dollars or term, then don't do the deal just because you paid to get him. If, on the other hand, you can get him under contract for a number you like, then I'm all for it.

Compliance buyouts are a luxury for rich owners to get out from under their GM's terrible decisions.

The PA is not interested in finding ways for teams to terminate their members.

The league forgiving a cap recapture penalty because the team could really use that cap space...

I doubt that next season's salary cap will shrink. The number will stay the same, but players will be aware that their actual take home will probably be smaller, depending on where the revenue number ends up. The following year? Who knows.

I hearya but i believe there was every intention on resigning him to begin with. Have a lil faith in both parties & enjoy the resigning.

Well, hate to say it bro, but Pettersson's getting Matthews money at least and Hughes will likely get what Doughty makes easy

Lols, I meant free agents. Should have specified. My mistake.
