So to be completely honest. I wont be changing my social distancing or preventative measures anytime soon. They will analyze and record the data after the measures have been lifted and will track trends and outbreaks, which is great, but I personally think it's a tad too soon. I get that the economy needs to get going again, and people have mortgages and what not, I just personally think it's a bit too soon, despite how awesome BC has done and is doing. - Codes1087
There's also the anticipated second wave expected in the fall, we're definitely not out of the woods yet. Don't be in a hurry to re-open the border or resume international flights. |

Might be time to make flu shots mandatory for everyone, not just for first responders. At least it might mitigate the effects of flu season along with COVID-19. My wife, daughter and I always get our flu shots when they're offered because she's got bad asthma and a bad flu can sometimes put her in danger of triggering an attack that requires hospitalization. I'm immuno-compromised because of being cancer survivor and we don't want my daughter bringing the flu home to us from school. |

Although it would never happen I think different regions of the province should have different restrictions ....northern BC has almost no cases and plenty of hospital space ...Vancouver/ lower mainland and the island are higher risk and have less hospital space. - Redmile247
Northern BC has lots of hospital space? Maybe where you live,.
Northern BC is also the region that has 2 of the largest construction jobs in Canada, meaning many out of town travelers, to go along with the out of province sportsfishers, that come into our communities.
When they say borders are shutdown, it should be all borders, not just for out of country, they say respect rural communities and don't travel, yet we get stuck with more and more out of town/province workers, everyday.

You could never successfully enforce regions within a province to have different measures, I dont think. The issue I have, is that people (some, not all) were respecting restrictions when they were tighter, I hate to think of what happens when they are given an inch, and see if they dont take a mile. Again, the reason BC has done so well is because people were generally really good about social distancing, but even then, we had a ton of idiots not give a sh*t as well - Codes1087
I do agree it would be hard to enforce, just a thought. I’ve been told the idea behind closing the province was so that the hospitals were not to be overwhelmed... northern health is well below capacity and most are socially distancing. |

Social distancing and flattening the curve is all and only about taking stress off of healthcare and the hospitals. Closing the province is only a means of not having more community transfer of the virus. Until we have a vaccine, I dont think borders should be reopened. Just my opinion though. |

My fear in re opening the economy is that there could be plenty of people who are still asymptomatic and don't realize it and it starts up again and this time it gets to be like New York City. |

Yet, the communities on the west coast of the Northern Health region are very concerned about the amount of travelers coming into our region.
Many villages have set up checkpoints and councils have expressed concerns about not having the capacity to deal with an outbreak, no matter how small of an outbreak. |

What are your thoughts on the possibility that the virus may have been in BC as early as November/December ? I know so many ppl up north that claim they had already had Covid in multiple areas.... with some workers who work for northern health wondering the same thing. |

...and Haida Gwaii turning away visitors.
Both community have very, very limited healthcare resources. Those who get sick are then transferred to another community far away. Families in complete distress. |

Yup.
Sounds like the Tsimshean, may be putting up a checkpoint on Rupert to Terrace highway. There is a small section of the highway that is on their traditional lands, so that is where they will be setting it up.👍

Construction companies should be doing their due diligence if they are bringing in new workers from out of province. Proper testing and precautions.

Not that I’m a Ford guy, but what he said about easing restrictions in Ont is pretty much what you just said - to paraphrase “if you reduce restrictions in Kingston but not Toronto, people from Toronto will go to Kingston. |

It's pretty sad, when locals are taking layoffs, because they are concerned about having too many people in the worksite, that are in a camp environment...can you say Kearl Lake.
Although distancing measures are in place, the concerns are about hotseating in lunchrooms. Certain groups believing the rules don't apply to them, access to worksite via bus, workers coming in from hotspots, etc.
I commend Dr. Henry and the government for most of the work they have done, but I believe they have dropped the ball on this.
