I agree, playing a full season is the fairest way to decide who makes the playoffs. That doesn't mean that's what should happen. It's only fair that people should be able to go to work to support their family. It's only fair for businesses to open to save their business. There is a whole lot of unfair going on. Including it was grossly unfair for those who have been killed by this to put it mildly. Let's have some perspective here. Fair should not be a part of the decision. |

I think a playoff format featuring the top 12 teams from each conference based on the current point percentages is sufficient. If you weren’t in the top 12 when the season was halted, you weren’t making the playoffs anyway. |

If we're going to 24 teams, might as well just allow them all in.
I say go with the top 8 by points% in each conference. If you don't make the cut, it's on you for not playing better the first 80% of the season. |

As long as they cut to the same amount of games played by every team which is 68.

Just cancel it. I love playoffs but I think the best thing to do is focus on next season.
I wish they would be proactive and find a way to make the game more competitive. Less games, non protected contracts, and less teams. Every other business is scaling back right now, how is pro sports any different?
You gotta think that the die hard markets will get through this but the teams that were already close to failing are done. Get rid of Arizona and Florida. Has not worked and unless they are going to pay the fans to show up they are done.
Make it so that if a player is not living up to his contract he can get bought out with one year salary. Fans should not have to pay for years for the stupidity of a one bad mistake by a GM. |

Every other business is scaling down because they are forced to. Not because they want to. None of what you ask for will ever happen. Doesn't make sense business wise. The NHLPA will never agree to the buyout structure you want. It's all a non-starter.

Yep. Take every team's record after 68 games, take best 3 from each division plus 2 wild cards (or best 8 from each conference) and start the playoffs. |

Question: If a team played more than 68 games, do all player/team stats past game 68 count? |

Good question. I can only say that we're clearly at a point where it's being made up as we go along.

No they don’t.
The world has changed. COVID is bigger than sports. Bad luck happens in life and sports. It would be nice if it were safe and they could finish the season, but it isn’t. There is no right or intitlement ot this being fair. It isn’t. They don’t deserve anything. I feel for them and it is unfortunate, but
I feel for people dealing with this pandemic in all its aspects infinitely more. I’m a family physician dealing with this daily.
I’m also anleafs season ticket holder and diehard fan since 1968. It has been a long wait for leafs fans. Too bad.
If some teams get left out. Too bad. If they cancel the season. Too bad. Life and health come first. |
