Poor taste. Not stuff I like to say. But its a free world.

Interesting that Ek has reported that he has received texts from several NHL players who want Brendan kicked out of the NHL. Hard to believe that. But Ek is reporting it so...

It's a little distressing how obsessed with Eklund you are.

It's also not a free world unless you're living off the grid somewhere. Most of us live in society where our actions have consequences.

So you work in an office. You meet some friends on the weekend for a private game of poker. You say some distasteful things about someone's wife. Someone records your private conversation, publishes it in the media, and when you come to the office on Monday morning there a bunch of people in the media calling for you to get fired? Because actions have consequences?

He already apologized. Move on.

Yes. If you make a bunch of misogynistic comments about your coworkers and wives and it becomes public, you're going to get in trouble, and could be fired with cause. Do you not live in the real world?

Don't know that I agree. It depends on the circumstances of how it became public.

Sure, if you shared that stuff at work with other co-workers and one of them reported you to HR, then you could (and should) get into trouble. But if you said that stuff outside of work to a friend that doesn't work there, and the only reason it became public is because someone hacked your phone and leaked your private conversations, then that's another story.

There's an expectation of privacy that people have when they're conversing in private chat messages with close friends. Do I like what he said? Absolutely not. Do I think he should lose his job because of it after he apologized? Absolutely not.

If everyone's private conversations from when they were in their 20s were leaked to the public, and we could be fired over the contents, not a single person here would have jobs anymore.

That's BS that bumholes try and promote. Not everyone is a hateful bigot in private. I've never had a private conversation that would get me fired. It's really not that hard to not call people fat.

You can be legally fired with cause for social media posts pretty much everywhere in the US and Canada. It doesn't matter if you intended it to be private. Just stop being a Richard.

Social media is different than private text messages to a small group of close personal friends.

As for never having have had a private conversation that would get you fired...

The Washington Capitals on Friday placed on unconditional waivers to terminate his contract after he made disparaging comments about women and teammates in a private social media chat.

His brother was also kicked off his football team. Teach your kids. Your actions have consequences.

Key word = "Private". It's not like he put it on his Facebook wall or in a Twitter post for hundreds or thousands of people to see. This was a private conversation between family and friends. Stupid kids saying stupid things.

If this was Alex Ovechkin, Washington would have accepted his apology and this would be behind us by now. Actions have consequences when you are easily replaceable. It certainly doesn't help that Leipsic is a fringe NHL player that played for 4 teams in the last 3 years.

I disagree with his termination and I hope they investigate how these private messages became public. If someone in his group decided to leak the messages, then that's one thing, but if someone hacked their way into these messages, then I hope that person ends up in prison. As far as I'm concerned this is akin to hacking someone's iCloud and uploading their naked photos to the internet.

I hope Leipsic has learned a lesson and will consider what he says in the future. However, he does not deserve to lose his livelihood over this.
