Boeser was another great pick by Benning, who was clearly enamoured with his shot, a great pick by him. I still can't understand why on God's green earth people want to trade him.....DUMB people!!
Virtanen, whether he's now a serviceable NHL role player or not, was a terrible pick at #6, there were far better/more talented players available. - Pacificgem
I think Boeser falls into the category of “give up talent to get talent” theory. Trade for equally talented defensive help. |

Number 2, behind Dahlin. Which is might be where he went in a redraft if not 3 for sure. - neem55
I'm not sure where Hughes would go in a re-draft but he'd definitely be top three without a doubt. |

They're not deep enough within their talent pool to be doing that IMO. You fix the defensive breakdowns by playing better as a team defensively not by trading away one of your best players.
Cam Neely was traded because he was playing behind Tanti and Smyl on the right side as they badly needed a center at the time. Bad decision then and it'd be a bad decision now IMO. |

Well, you'd be wrong, just because you have buy-in or consensus doesn't mean it wasn't one guys pick or the other.
Group decisions allow for buy-in but someone still has to come up with initial recommendation. Brackett is the "director of amateur scouting" so he can compile information from his staff and put forward his recommendation to Benning, who either confirms the pick of overrules him.
IF Brackett said this is my guy after talking to his staff, then it was his pick, IF Benning said no I like this guy, then it was his pick. - Pacificgem
You’re wrong. They agree to rank kids based on their personal preferences, but when they have Hughes at 4 (I don’t know their actual ranking, but for example) and when they are picking at 7 and he’s still there, both guys are happy. |

Agree. |

BUT, if you did buy that argument, just an FYI, Podkolzin is a Brackett pick, Benning didn’t want him... - 1970vintage
My memory of the table when it was their turn was it was no time wasted . Podk fell to Canucks and Benning without hesitation took him. Smyl announced the pick on stage and had trouble pronouncing his name. |

I just like to debate with you
You're right in that they'll have meeting after meeting where everyone will have their input, however, that doesn't mean they can't have one guy, whoever that is, say this is who we should be picking.
At the end of the day there's two guys with authority here, Benning as the General Manager and Brackett as the Director of Amateur Scouting. |

Boeser to me will be a 60 point guy and you don't give them away. My question is can he get 60-70 pts playing with Bo ? I like Toffoli on Petey's side. That could change but so far so good. |

There's a story out there that Brackett and Benning had a falling out at the 2019 draft, on day two Brackett wasn't even at the table if I remember correctly? The article said he (Brackett) actually thought that was it for him, he thought he was fired.
I'll have to search for it. |

I think it was Kuzma’s recent bit that said Podkolzin was the scouting departments overwhelming consensus selection and they had to convince Benning/Weisbrod of it. This was the incident that created the rift, and on day two Benning/Weisbrod took over with their own list.
Again, I don’t buy any of it, but if someone did believe the conspiracies, this is one of them... |

"On Day 2 of the 2019 draft, Brackett was stripped of authority, so much so he thought he was getting fired that weekend. When he wasn’t, he began planning for next.
Here’s the thing: the Canucks are not an organization that hires good people & leaves them alone do to their jobs." |

I’m going to have to start giving you strokes if we’re keeping a score card. You have a much bigger handicap than me . |

I don’t buy the “Benning’s pick” “Brackett’s pick” BS. They have meeting after meeting after meeting refining their list.
I could be persuaded that this process has been stifled recently where the process has become less collaborative, leading to the fracture of their working relationship. - 1970vintage
I agree. I also think at the end of the day they’re all Benning picks, does anyone try to figure out who the head scout is on other teams??!! No, they say yzerman had a great drafting and development team/strategy. I get we are more nitpicky with our own team, but if any of you making these bs brackett arguments can name a single head scout on another team i will be shocked. |

True, but I'm older and qualify for the seniors tour, which you don't, so yeah, you have a slight advantage. |

All this Brackett stuff is a joke You have clowns like Taj on Twitter winding up all the fan boys, and it's a hot topic here as well. If he doesn't want to sign his contract, good, find another one and move on. |

It's not a joke, I don't understand the reference? He was an important part of their success the past few years, however, no one person is irreplaceable. Judd Brackett or Jim Benning.
Life will go on within the organization and hopefully enough of his (Brackett's) speed and skill mantra has rubbed off on the right people. |

Which brings me to my next question.
Do the goals and assists in the 24 team round robin count as points in regular season? Doesn't seem fair that they do seeing not all teams will play an equal amount of games? Do they take everyone's points back to 68 games? |

100%, however, its played out and frankly, if Brackett goes, it wont be the end of the world nor the end of the Canucks. The whole ordeal is not worth the keyboard its typed on.
I do really despise how Brackett takes all the W's and Benning takes all the L's. Its so unbelievably irrational.....fans will be fans.... |

I’m thinking that our goaltending saved us from having another dismal season and Marky won’t be able to sustain that level of play long term (if he’s even on the roster next season) whether through talent or injuries.
Can’t always rely on your goaltender to bail you out. Got to have a solid D-core to win games, especially in the second season. |

Benning’s an idiot who has an eye for drafting. Everything else is a dumpster fire. Not a good NHL GM.
A head scout who was given a chance from a buddy who was a president of a dysfunctional NHL franchise. |

Fully agree. Clearly, we're more civil on the west coast. Cumberland pretty much shut right down. A few food places started doing take out a few weeks back but most businesses are slowly re-opening and most aim to be open by June 1.
I don't go shopping as I'm high risk and we were adhering to the 1 person per household rule (which many ignored) and she said some stores are much better organised than others. For example Thrifty's she says is calm and Superstore scares her. - Marwood
