Carol Schram: Canucks vs. Wild? New details emerge on potential NHL return-to-play format
The latest word from NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman is that the NHL is looking at using two hub cities to each house 12 teams from one conference as they try to pin down plans for a league restart. Based on this early information, the Vancouver Canucks would line up to face the Minnesota Wild in a to-be-determined location that might be Vancouver...or Edmonton...or Vegas?
My big issue with this format is the top teams play after three months of no games while the weaker teams are up to speed. There’s going to be an asterix on this year’s cup win, no matter what. As my buddy at ball hockey put it, of course that’s the year the Canucks would win. So every flames/leafs fan could still say we haven’t won a “real” cup. I’m not saying it’s likely, just that i agree it’s just our luck.
I am ready for hockey right now. I have looked at projectors to use outside this summer to watch games in the backyard. I feel like the 24 team format is going to be exciting and fresh with some new ideas.

I'm still taking it. Who gives a poop what anyone else thinks? I just want watch some hockey. Canucks winning it all would just be icing on the cake.

No one debates winning a Cup with only winning two series or in a 6 team league so I don't know why this would not be legit. - VANTEL
I'll offer an alternative take: this year's winner will be more remembered than most years. After a few years most seasons get forgotten/drowned out in the noise. Unless your favourite team won, chances are you can't instantly recall the winner from a random year. Without thinking or looking it up can you say who won in 2008 or say 2014 or 1997?
That's not going to be the case with the pandemic year. Most people will remember because this will be a bizarre and unforgettable year. Everyone will remember.
Who gives a sh!t about an asterisk? Better to be remembered than forgotten.

I will guess
2008 Pens
2014 Kings
1997 Wings
Just a guess I will look it up . I agree a win is a win who cares about an Asterisk
Damn I was going to guess Wings in 2008 also but changed my mind
