My big issue with this format is the top teams play after three months of no games while the weaker teams are up to speed. There’s going to be an asterix on this year’s cup win, no matter what. As my buddy at ball hockey put it, of course that’s the year the Canucks would win. So every flames/leafs fan could still say we haven’t won a “real” cup. I’m not saying it’s likely, just that i agree it’s just our luck. - neem55
Leafs fans feel the same way...
Let's see what they come up with if they come back. If the playoffs are as gruelling as they always were, and one of the "extra" teams doesn't win it, then it is still pretty legit, as least as legit as the half-season a number of years ago.

Guarantee that fans of whoever win will argue its legitimacy and other fans will use it as a reason to dismiss it.

I'll offer an alternative take: this year's winner will be more remembered than most years. After a few years most seasons get forgotten/drowned out in the noise. Unless your favourite team won, chances are you can't instantly recall the winner from a random year. Without thinking or looking it up can you say who won in 2008 or say 2014 or 1997?
That's not going to be the case with the pandemic year. Most people will remember because this will be a bizarre and unforgettable year. Everyone will remember.
Who gives a sh!t about an asterisk? Better to be remembered than forgotten. - RealityChecker
Wow dude good post...sometimes, just sometimes you can make some sense

They play it it is legit IMO - VANTEL
Sure.
But debate is what keeps us here.
Vancouver won a stanley cup already, but different franchise so not legit really.
TML didn't play enough rounds to win a legit cup.
Other teams teams didn't win before the expansion(s) so not legit and so on...
And that's before the conspiracy (Betmanhatesus) theories.

I look forward to the playoffs.

Oh I treat Vancouvers Cup just as legit as the Leafs win in the 6 man league. Back in those days Vancouver won 7 or 8 titles in the Western League which was on par with the NHL

What is with this hangup on an *?
I don’t by it since no team will roll over.
Leafs won a real cup when?
I am ready for hockey right now. I have looked at projectors to use outside this summer to watch games in the backyard. I feel like the 24 team format is going to be exciting and fresh with some new ideas. - Nucknab23
