The CDC made a subtle change to their claim about contacting through touching surfaces. Now they are now saying "it doesnt spread easily" by touching surfaces.

All media outlets are quoting this. I havent seen any say anything about zero risk though.

- boonerbuck

I'm assuming this is what you are reffering to?

https://www.cdc.gov/coron...ck/how-covid-spreads.html

"From touching surfaces or objects. It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes. This is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads, but we are still learning more about this virus."

The risk of people contracting the virus has always been much much lower on surfaces due to hand washing and sanitizing, which has been the CDCs and Who's number 1 recommendation for prevention this whole time. The social distancing of 6 feet due to droplets has always been the most common way of contracting the virus and that hasnt changed. The CDC saying all of the above is absolutely nothing new from what they have been saying this whole time. Despite the fact that it may or may not live in various surfaces for different amounts of time, people are still hand washing and sanitizing regularly so the risk of contraction through that are slimmer, which is exactly what they, and everyone else is saying

Yeah, the sensational headline on Fox News was “CDC now says Coronavirus does not spread easily”. What the CDC says is that person to person transmission is still the most likely way to spread the virus. That while getting it from a surface like a counter or package is uncommon, people should still be washing their hands and sanitizing commonly used surfaces.

Perhaps it’s a subtle difference to their previous narrative, but I have never heard any health official suggest we should distance ourselves from door handles.

I honestly dont see a single difference. The most likely way of contracting covid has always and will always be person to person droplets.

The reason this “slight” adjustment has created such a buzz is that originally all we heard was constant terror or how long the virus can last on objects ... everything outside could be contaminated...stay home ...it was everywhere on all kinds of news feeds.

Just read that iMac said Virtanen, McCann Boeser, Joulevi are Benning picks and Pettersson, Hughes, Podz are Brackett picks.

Interesting coming from iMac as he tends to be the organization mouthpiece. Wonder if the relationship is changing or something else as this certainly doesn't make Benning look great in the Brackett drama.

I personally subscribe to the notion that all good and bad decisions land at a GM's feet so I don't really care if Brackett goes but an iMac revolt would be news.

- belcherbd

Imac can be a bit of a goof.

All GMs have scouts/analysts and what have you making recommendations and such for them but ultimately the final say goes across Benning's desk. I don't know the full details on Pettersson but Benning was huge on Hughes from day 1.

I guess it's all how you interpreted the information. I never once went out thinking everything was contaminated. Theres a reason why all these countries and cities, that are so densely populated, be hit so hard. It's not because they are picking their nose more often than us on the island.

To your credit, I'll say this. I told everyone not to listen to any news outlet as the misinformation from them is absolutely insane. I've had all my info come direct from the health authority and havent turned on one news outlet since the outbreak began and it's been the best decision I have made.

I'm also not going to try to convince people or try to not justify how people feel. As long as people wash their hands, social distance, and not contract covid19 due to ignorance and stress our healthcare system, I could not care less what people think.

That’s probably the best idea ...I really don’t trust any media outlet 100% no matter who it is.

I don’t agree with how Canada chose to handle this but hopefully enough people are happy to have a bit of normal and still do as you recommend

Hey Codes, have the Health Authority's discussed and told you what their plans are if Phase 2 leads to a rise in COVID infections? Are they preparing for multiple waves?

Our town hall yesterday was literally broken due to server traffic (virtual from burnaby). Its getting reuploaded today so I'll let you know once I watch it.

To answer the bold above though, yes they are.

I remember seeing a video or interview with Benning about Hughes, saying he went to his place and chatted with him and his parents before the draft saying that if for some reason he fell in the draft, he wouldn't be making it past Vancouver. Benning was all in on Hughes from day one, just didn't think he'd get there.

So ya, that definitely makes me question that list too. And if I remember correctly, wasn't is Gradin who was really gunning for Petey all of that year?

All things considered, BC has done incredible. I still think we were too lenient (still are) and canada was more reactive than proactive, but we (BC) did an unreal job

I think we were more lucky than anything, with how many Chinese families live in Richmond and how often they used to tend to go back and forth between here and China, what happened in New York could have EASILY been Vancouver and the rest of the province. And we don't even have as much resources to spend on making triage hospitals and the like that the US does (or the military to really do that kind of thing too)

I agree, it's the "my personal freedom is more important than a flu that kills old folks" attitudes that make me want to mutilate those people with dull farm implements.

I honestly think its premature to say we are out the woods yet. Phase/wave 2 will come, like it has with so many countries, and it will hit hard.

The health authorities get their info straight from the ministry. You can too. Here’s the link.

https://www2.gov.bc.ca/go...vid-19-provincial-support

Workers in the health authority don’t get “inside” info. It’s all very transparent. Keep checking the government’s site and don’t rely on TV news to interpret.

It’s the erosion of trust in our public offices like the CDC that’s baffles me. These people are experts in their fields and the BC CDC is one of the reasons our province has done better than most Canadian provinces during the pandemic.

The low IQ folks that question CDC actions because of their love of conspiracies and paranoia make me shake my head in disbelief.

Benning had talked about trying to get a skilled offensive defenseman for a couple years before drafting Hughes. Iirc, he stated how hard they are to get.

Also, I believe Benning traveled to Sweden to personally scout Petterson, as recommended by Delorme and Gradin. I think it was Lefty who discussed this several times, leading up to the draft.

people questioning the overall competence of the CDC because they clarify things that we already knew is just hilarious.

Yup, the media will sensationalize and that leads some to interpret the information incorrectly.

But we all know this so why keep hammering on it. It’s common sense. Low IQ types think they are enlightening us to the “truth”. It’s ridiculous.

I don't think Vancouver and BC could have been as bad as New York. The infrastructure is completely different, from the amount of flights/travelers, to public transportation, to the sheer number of people (5 million in BC, 8.4 million in NYC alone), you guys are much more spread out. Plus, all the religious fanatics down here make things much harder!

That said, BC has done a tremendous job. The catch-22 is people will use the low numbers to argue that it wasn't as bad as it's been made out to be
