When I read the news article I literally said (out loud) “there is literally nothing new here”.

i know a ton of people think the whole pot banging thing is stupid and think health care employee's don't really care. I can ensure everyone, that any little bit of moral support that you can give any front-line healthcare worker will go an extremely long way.

My daughter niece and granddaughter are all nurses and I thank them weekly and tell them how brave they are.

I don't think people were ready to go out to restaurants 3 or 4 weeks after this started. Most people are nervous going out now and a lot say they won't be comfortable until there is a vaccine. The only thing I think they should have done better was to close the border sooner and restricted travelling sooner.

Yeah maybe. But I think one of the things that BC did better than other provinces was to keep “essential services” open, with strict guidelines. The reason I think that is because residents here seem less uptight about their civil rights being violated... I’ve been outside walking since this started - making sure to offer a wide space to others. I’ve been to Home Hardware for paint or supplies to manage my projects etc. sure, we have all seen the videos of the odd person assaulting another over whatever their reason was, but I think BC’ers have been a little more chill about things.

Unlike you, I do read / listen to the news, but unlike Red I’m smart enough to dismiss those statements that seem unlikely.

I remember seeing a video or interview with Benning about Hughes, saying he went to his place and chatted with him and his parents before the draft saying that if for some reason he fell in the draft, he wouldn't be making it past Vancouver. Benning was all in on Hughes from day one, just didn't think he'd get there.

So ya, that definitely makes me question that list too. And if I remember correctly, wasn't is Gradin who was really gunning for Petey all of that year?

- NewYorkNuck

Benning appeared to be really high on Quinn Hughes as well, but, I don't understand why people continually say he "fell in the draft"....he didn't, he was picked right around where he was projected.

The Hockey Writers had him at #8
Central Scouting had him at #6 for North American Skaters
ISS had him at #7
The Sporting News had him at #10
Sportsnet had him at #9
TSN (Bobby Mac) had him at #8
Dobber had him at #8
Pronman had him at #5

I remember him sitting beside Brackett saying, when he was available, "that's a huge win" so ya, he was really onboard with the pick. Even if it was Brackett's pick.

After the fact both him and Petey would be much higher in the rankings obviously. A lot of teams kicking themselves in the ass, but hey, it happens all the time, I'm just glad we're on the right side of it these times after being on the wrong side of it for so many years.

I don’t buy the “Benning’s pick” “Brackett’s pick” BS. They have meeting after meeting after meeting refining their list.

I could be persuaded that this process has been stifled recently where the process has become less collaborative, leading to the fracture of their working relationship.

I think Canucks did very well with EP QH BB VP . I think if you ask most in here now they like Jake also.

OJ has been a let down but there is still time.

Fully agree. Clearly, we're more civil on the west coast. Cumberland pretty much shut right down. A few food places started doing take out a few weeks back but most businesses are slowly re-opening and most aim to be open by June 1.
I don't go shopping as I'm high risk and we were adhering to the 1 person per household rule (which many ignored) and she said some stores are much better organised than others. For example Thrifty's she says is calm and Superstore scares her.

Benning was huge on Hughes so that doesnt sound right at all.

Who they pick is collective with Benning having the final say.

Where did you read this? Link maybe?

- boonerbuck

Ya i call bullpoop, Brackett was also pulling for a ushl guy over podz and benning thought the skill was too much to pass on.

Yeah, Thrifty’s has been very organized, Fairway Market has been a free for all the few times I’ve been in. I think the folks at Worksafe and VIHA will be very busy with site visits to make sure business are following guidelines.

Boeser was another great pick by Benning, who was clearly enamoured with his shot, a great pick by him. I still can't understand why on God's green earth people want to trade him.....DUMB people!!

Virtanen, whether he's now a serviceable NHL role player or not, was a terrible pick at #6, there were far better/more talented players available.

BUT, if you did buy that argument, just an FYI, Podkolzin is a Brackett pick, Benning didn’t want him...

If nothing else the new format is worth a try.
- Nighthawk

I think if they do this right it could be a huge success. The best sightlines in the arena won't have people in them so you can put a camera in almost any location. You can use the sky cam and follow a guy on a breakaway, or look at a PP from different angles. I hope we get some new ideas to change the viewing experience.

Well, you'd be wrong, just because you have buy-in or consensus doesn't mean it wasn't one guys pick or the other.

Group decisions allow for buy-in but someone still has to come up with initial recommendation. Brackett is the "director of amateur scouting" so he can compile information from his staff and put forward his recommendation to Benning, who either confirms the pick of overrules him.

IF Brackett said this is my guy after talking to his staff, then it was his pick, IF Benning said no I like this guy, then it was his pick.
