How did they have to? Out of hundreds of possible trade scenarios with likely 2 dozen teams that was the only one... expand yours minds guys - Mr_Smokey

So honestly asking, you think firing Babcock was the right move? - nyisles7
The Leafs were well out of a playoff spot when he was fired. So, in a word: yes. |

Him or Marner should go first IMO.
Trading one them could change the whole make up of this team and get us out of CAP issues.
(BTW, I like Tavares but didn't like when he got the C and wouldn't be sad if he wasn't here. Not the captain this team deserves.) - underhill14
I don't trade the guys who want to be here and want to win as a Leaf.

I distinctly remember the Penguins winning a Cup with an AHL-calibre d-corps.
Teams need balance and great goaltending. The myth that one aspect of the game "wins championships" is reductive AF. - mjones242
It’s how they play. The philosophy of the club and the desire of the players just as much as it is personnel |

if he had a shred of negotiating ability, he would have been able to get atleast 1 o 2 of his forwards signed for under 10 mil, meaning he wouldn't have had to give up a (frank)ing 1st rd pick in order to dump a contract. that's TERRIBLE asset and contract management by Dubas - haywoodjablome
This guy gets it. Good luck with burn, he doesn’t. He blames ghost of the past and refs. |

Oh, I'm not saying JT doesn't try. For whatever reason, he just doesn't play good 2-way hockey. We had different theories when he was on the Island. He's never been a great skater. He also may have developed poor habits from lousy NHL coaching who simply never demanded that he play 2-way hockey. - JohnScammo
This is true. Painfully sometimes. I don't love his contract but at least he gives a poop.I don't think he is the problem |

Doubt it. I don't think anyone does much better.
Saving a mil doesn't negate having to trade marleau. Do the math, take a mill off the one or 2 guys and then add 6mil..... |

I don't think it made much difference, except that it was probably a little more millenial-friendly post Babs. |

I'd rather have a guy who didn't get himself ejected out of two playoff series for stupid poop.
Barrie at 50% retained seemed like a decent gamble. Why not bring on board one of the best offensive D-men in the league to a team that is already high octane?
The gamble clearly didn't pay off. Oh wellz...
The Kerfoot contact is bothersome as there's too much term and he's paid about 1M more than he should be. Oh wellz...
Kadri had to be moved for a D man and Dubas didn't get his first choice (Brodie).
Hindsight and all that... whatcha gonna do? - mjones242
Trading for sake a trade was a poor idea. Last thing the Leafs needed was a hole on D. |

So unless Leafs win the lottery tomorrow, that pick belongs to Carolina? I’m certain this is true but I stupidly hope I’m wrong (like how I stupidly watched this game with the hope they’d win). |

2018 - Sandin - Steven_Seagull
Inherited that selection, once his first pube came in he started tossing them away. 2019, 2020 (hopefully not), but if not, 2021. Just getting started. Lmao |
