Good point! The further we go, the less painful that #1 becomes. Regardless, JGP is one of my favorites now. He’s a great team guy. Like his personality and attitude too.

He had another great game. Imagine how much better he will be when he loses that anchor on his wing... My God was Uncle Leo terrible in that game. My favorite was when he passed it to him on the PK and Leo never moved. Like a full on traffic cone.

"yeah.. Pags.. good game bro, but in the future don't Lead Leo with a pass. Just put it where he is b/c he will still be there" Trotz

Absolutely. We all want to see this team do something now that we’re out of the running for Laff. Team looks great but let’s not forget the best thing that happened for the Islanders in this series was most likely Lee’s hit on Backstrom😂

Not to take away in anyway From how the Islanders are playing because they’re doing an incredible job with the caps but them losing a player like Backstrom makes them a less effective team for sure.

- Cptmjl

Isles are all "bought in" right now capt. Caps are just not the same team as they were under Trotz. Exactly what my buddy said before the series and I hope he was right... they just don't have the same team commitment to defensive system they had under Trotz. You see a few times a game where their forwards are just not doing their jobs in the D-zone. .... It ain't over by a long stretch, but if the Caps keep mailing it in on the D-end we will finish this up soon..... don't think Backstrom helps them THAT much. Hopefully we can finish this one Tuesday.

Like I said there’s no easy way out of the next round. Flyers have a good team and we know the deal with the Canes and Bruins. We probably match up better against the Flyers but that wouldn’t be an easy series (if they beat the Canadaians that is).

heck of a game by Hart last night. Habs were the better team IMO.

What's this? Lots of criticism for the leagues #1 centerman?

It's so nice to see you all changing from watchers to thinkers.

I wish I had been reading this thread during the game. Would have been fun

Both of those teams scare the hell out of me.
- Wildschwein

Yup, want no part of either team. What the Canes did to us last year is a reminder they can handle the structure of the Islanders and they did it w/o Svech. I'd take my chances with the Flyers who haven't exactly been lighting things up against Montreal. Regardless, enjoying the ride.

I just want to finish the Caps. Then I will worry about the next match-up. Once you get to this point though there are no easy match-ups for sure. Final 9 teams will be the deep end regardless... (but yes Boston and Carolina scare the sht out of me too. I hope they beat the heck out of each other for 7 games).

Boston is a little less frightening without Rask....so there's that 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

I do agree with you concerning Barzal’s inability to maximize Lee’s strengths.
- Wildschwein

Just remember to give Puckin some props when you fully come around to my way of thinking and write your blog about moving Barzal to wing.

He's only in this 3rd NHL season and you're already declaring him unfit to be an NHL center

On any other PO team, he isn't centering the #1 line (and Pags isn't centering Koma and Brass type players). People scratch their heads and wonder why they aren't producing the way they should. Let him center the 3rd line while he learns how to win a FO and how to glue a line together.

Barazl will get there, but he's really hurting Lee's and Ebs production. What is he, 38% on FO's? That's nowhere near good enough for a scoring line.

..back in Jan..

Trotz: Barzal and Individual play vs Team play.

Arthur Staple
@StapeAthletic
Trotz says Barzal benching was “100 percent” about putting individual play ahead of the team. Not in a mood to elaborate.

He’s playing well but Varlamov’s problem is and always has been consistency. He was delegated to back up twice with the Avalanche after having a great early run with them. This is nothing new but with that said I hope he maintains consistency in the playoffs...

Ancient history doesn't = constantly. I judge him by how he has played for the Isles, and I don't recall him letting in many 'bad goals'.

Thought Leo was fine. Played well on the PK and also threw his body around and was a pest. Did his job.

54%, good guess though

Barzal also tied for the lead in the playoffs in 5v5 scoring, so there's that
