Yeah I want nothing to do with another albatross contract like Turris. 4 years? Yikes. Abdelkader and Nielsen are still here and so is Dekeyser. It would be hilarious if we got Jarnkrok back. Holland gave him away so he could rent David Legwand and keep the playoff streak going. Good times. |

Neilson for turris plus what? Nash would add a bit to do that then buy out Neilson but a first and then some? In a stretch I see the first using marleau as a comparison. But in that case a bad contract wasn’t going other way. It’s a stretch for sure |

It’s a brutal contract. But, if a first came with it I’d be on board. Expose at the draft. There was some chatter that Yzerman would send Abby down to GR this coming season. It won’t clear him off the books, but it’s a pretty strong statement. And yep, Nash and Dallas both got players for rentals that year (I think). Not quite Erat for Forsberg, but a forgettable trade! |

That’s a fair point. I do think there are players that Yzerman isn’t as “high” on as Kenny was. Someone in that group of Rasmussen/Svech/? Could be something Poile may be willing to take a flyer on.

Nashville isn't going to surrender a 1st + Tolvanen just to dump Turris. If they offer that I take it in a heartbeat. Turris at $6M doesn't hurt Detroit that badly. The next 2-3 years we aren't competing for anything so the cap hit isn't a big deal. Maybe by year 4 you'll wish Turris wasn't around, but you can buy out the final year if you need to.
I also don't think Nashville's cap situation is that bad. Having Granlund and Smith as UFAs is a blessing in disguise. That's $10M to better invest elsewhere. Signing a guy like Hoffman or Toffoli would add some offense. Nashville would also be in a position to absorb a player from a cap-strapped team. Yesterday I wrote about Toronto potentially looking to dump Kapanen or Johnsson. Nashville could swoop in and use this $10M that way. So imagine bringing in Hoffman for $6M and taking on Johnsson's $3.4M. Now Nashville has this:
Forsberg-Duchene-Hoffman
Johnsson-Johansen-Arvidsson
with
Ellis-Josi
Ekholm-Fabbro
That's pretty competitive.

I love the take K. Yeah, I’ve softened a little on Turris because of the rebuild. Basically would take over for Gagner. I would definitely jump at getting a first. Hoffman is a strange bird. Produces but seems to be on the move a bit. Fabbri might cost a couple bucks as an RFA after next season but you laid out some pretty good lines. Nice stuff |

I'm in Canada. My profile says California because I got really excited when Ek reported Lafreniere was going to LA. |

The only problem with this trade is the upcoming expansion draft. Turris is the guy you keep around so he can be exposed and other players can be protected. No chance he gets moved and especially if you are looking for a sweetener to take on his contract. |

We have so many ugly contracts, but there is no urgency to dump any of them. As I said, we're not competing for anything for a couple of years.
2020-21 = Nielsen, Abby, Helm, Filppula, Dekeyser, Zetterberg, Weiss. A couple of these guys can still play in a supporting role (ie Nielsen, Helm, Dekeyser). Abby can just be buried to the AHL. But it's a lot of garbage. Adding Turris to this is no big deal.
2021-22 = Nielsen, Abby, Dekeyser. That's all the trash. Helm is gone. Filppula is gone. Zetterberg is gone. Weiss is gone. So having Turris or a similar garbage contract this season isn't a problem.
2022-23 = Nielsen is gone. Dekeyser is gone. The only awful deal left is Abby. So again, having a Turris on the books in this season isn't that terrible. He'd basically fill the role currently served by guys like Nielsen/Helm/Filppula. It's only around this time when guys like Mantha, Bertuzzi will be through their RFA years and looking for larger contracts. Larkin would get renewed in 2023-24. So unless Yzerman breaks the bank for a bunch of UFAs, we're going to have plenty of unused cap space. If taking on a garbage deal like Turris or James Neal nets a 1st and a top prospect then bring it on. |

I thought about Turris last year to be the 2nd line center (an upgrade over Filppula and Nielsen for sure) but at this point i would rather they not take on that bad contract although maybe i would do it at the draft for the 11th overall if Sanderson or Askarov are still on the board. Other than that, they can keep him. |

It’s an “if” for sure. But in this draft, I’d take it and deal with Turris contract. |
