Jake Allen maybe depending on the return. He could split time with Bernier for a season.

That interesting. I’ve heard Penguins may be willing to move Murray and that Allen may be wanting too much on a new deal. It fills a need, big time. Good stuff G

I mean Jake Allen has 1 more year left at 4.35 mil. He's 30 years old. Yzerman has to acquire a goalie anyway. He'd be doing Doug Armstrong a favour so a sweetener would be needed.

Just a correction...Steen, Schwartz, and Bozak are all UFA's after next season, not RFA's. They all have NTC's, either full or partial. So moving them isn't easy. Acquiring Parayko will require packages involving names like Larkin, Mantha, Seider, #1's. So not happening. Moving Jake Allen will be easy. He had a decent playoff. Finding a way to trade Bozak to one of his permitted teams would probably be enough to fit in Pietrangelo. Buying out Steen is another option. The penalty isn't severe and the damage to the 2021-22 season is mitigated due to the Blues having plenty of cap flexibility that year.

Ah, bless you K. I’ll go make the change. Friggin dyslexia strikes again.

Will any of these moves require a “clearing house” partner in Detroit. Money on, money off to facilitate a deal to a team with more appealing assets?

Good. I hate sweetener. Tastes like garbage and gives you cancer

I'm not good enough with Cap Friendly to figure out the Trade Machine.... but with Arizona, if they really did want to move OEL.... would a three team deal involving Toronto and Detroit match up?

OEL to Toronto
Rodrigues, pick(s) from each team to Det
Nylander to AZ

Obviously more would need to happen in this for it to work out, but as a start?

Toronto gets the Elite Dman they desperately need, AZ gets a really good player to somewhat replace Hall if He leaves, and the Wings get a young Center to audition, who is an RFA at a really bad time, both numbers on the ice and with the Cap, plus a couple picks to make the money work.

Wings could maybe take the last year of Hossa's deal and/or Raanta's last year to improve the pick(s) they get from AZ? Hell maybe they could even get Toronto to part with Jack Campbell?

I really think TOR is going to revisit CAR. They wanted Nylander, badly. At the time they’d offered Dougie Hamilton but TOR wanted Brett Pesce. I think TOR would be happy with DH this time around. OEL to TOR would be fascinating though. You may be on to something. Campbell is fine as a gap fill, but he’s had some struggles

I don't see why the Wings are even involved in this 3 way deal of yours. They give up nothing and get a young player and picks and don't even have to take on a bad contract to get it.

Campbell totally has struggled. I thought of him for 3 reasons...
1. Signed at a palletable 1.65 mill for the next 2 years so that's a total of 4.65 mil on Goalies next season, leaving all that space for Extensions, etc
2. Fine in a platoon next year with Bernier, who is likely to get the lions share of work anyways, so He starts 25ish games, maybe 30? But let's also be real... the Wings aren't exactly looking to win any time soon so a bad goalie.... well plays into that no? If He gets good, well then they acquired him at 28, so He's not young, but he's not OLD either...
3. SINCE he is under contract, he would fulfill the requirement of exposing at least one Goalie under contract in the Expansion draft... same goes for Rodrigues too... expose him unless He gives you a reason not too...

If Campbell is around for 2 years and doesn't play better, well let him walk as the window to win is opening up, no harm really done, or maybe Stevie Y can get SOMETHING for him at the Deadline, individually or as part of a package, to a fringe contender needing a backup because of an injury.

If we're going to help teams dump their garbage then we'd better get some great prospects or high picks. Otherwise Yzerman should just hang the phone up. This isn't the Salvation Army Red Wings.

Well that's why I said this would be a framework for a deal. Well AZ and Toronto are still cap strapped in this deal. Yes of course the Wings have to give something up, that's a given. I was more pondering a big picture idea. In reality, the Wings likely give up someone like Glendening, or someone like Hicketts or Cholowski, but nothing major. They are there to make the money work.

I’d take Fleury if he wants out of Vegas.

I’d go after one of the Pens goalies. Both are young and could provide a # 1 for a few years. One less weak link in the chain...

Bring on some help on D and a # 1 center and we’re all set.... Rebuild back on track.

That would be cool, but only if they give up Cody Glass to sweeten the $7M AAV x 2 that comes with Fluery. I say Glass instead of a 1st because if Vegas gets into the SCF then that pick is too close to a second. they can have a 3rd back for that!

After a disastrous season for Jake Allen when STL won the cup and Binnington was RFA, there were rumors they might move Allen for salary cap relief, but Doug Armstrong said there was no way.. he still believed in Allen, both as an insurance policy and how the two pushed each other for playing time.

STL will be contending for the cup again next year, so in my opinion they keep Allen and let him walk next offseason.

Bozak or Schwartz could be moved, but with their M-NTC, neither guy is going to give up his spot on a legit contender to move to Detroit (or NJ, or Ott, or any of the teams who missed out on the play-in series) right now.

What I do think *COULD* happen with the Wings and Alex Steen is what Colorado did with Brooks Orpik after the Caps won the cup: http://russianmachineneve...nche-legend-brooks-orpik/

And then re sign at league min in STL? As long as the payoff is right I’m fine being the enabler. STL has such a solid roster. ROR seems to be reborn. A healthy 91 would make a huge difference. Armstrong will be in “tweak/reload” mode for a while. Very impressive what they’ve put together.

That's the idea. Steen's only making $3.5M in actual dollars so the buyout isn't so hard on the books. It's a nice way to say thanks for Robbie Fabbri and it's basically all the cap space STL needs to resign AP and Vince Dunn. The question becomes what do the wings get out of it, and I'm looking at Klim Kostin, or Zach Sanford and Jake Walman, or Tyler Tucker... something along those lines in exchange for a warm body or a late round pick.

Piet is leaving. It seems everyone has known for awhile. Look at the way Perron hugged him as they left the ice after handshakes vs VAN.

Would STL really trade for Faulk and Scandella and then extend both, if they didn't know?
Scandella more as a replacement for JayBo of course.

I think AP told STL at seasons start. I'm gonna test free agency. Giving them plenty of notice to plan for it.

I missed that, I’ll check the replay. Thanks for that. I do hate what these guys go through on the personal end of things. Every now and then you see how much these teams are like families to some players.

AZ losing 2nd round 2020 pick and 2021 First round pick due to combine testing violations. They already don’t have this year’s first, and so the landscape changes a bit for what they’re going to need. https://www.prohockeyrumo...d-of-two-draft-picks.html

I would expect the Wings to get a 1st round pick and/or a top prospect to take on Steen. Sure his contract only has one more year but he would still be taking a roster spot (unless they dump him in the minors with Abdelkade and possibly Nielsen). Carolina got a first to take Marleau and buy him out from the Leafs so with a stagnant cap why should the Wings expect less.
