I think you mean the return would start with a 1st round pick, not 1st overall, right?

The Flyers could really use him but idk if they can afford to part with any defenseman of value other than Gostisbehere, and his stock has obviously fallen.

Thanks for the writing! We need more Jets articles!!

People seriously need to stop calling Ristolainen a top 4 D. He is closer to bottom pair D than top pair!! I wouldn’t touch him.

Hamilton is eligible to sign an extension so maybe he should be looked at, if he’s willing to do that

But!!

Any potential Laine trade would have to be a huge offer the Jets can’t say no to. Otherwise keep him.

Thank you!

I'm planning on having a blog or two weekly during the offseason.

If the Sabres followed the above package to start, we’re talking about the eighth overall pick in the 2020 Entry Draft, 25-year old Rasmus Ristolainen and either top prospects Dylan Cozens or Rasmus Asplund.

We have our one-dimensional off-side PP specialist in Olofsson.

No thank you to any of that. We need a 2C.

Would the Jets consider Monahan and Hanifin for Laine?

Monahan, Centre - 6'2", 200 lbs. Scores 30 goals a year in his sleep. 25 Years old. 3 more years on his contract at 6.375.

Hanifin, Left Shot Defense - 6' 3", 215 lbs. 23 Years old and has already been in the league 5 years and has played over 390 games. 4 more years on his contract at 4.95.

No 1st round pick to Winnipeg though. Just 2 for 1.

Hey I completely get not wanting to make a deal, and having needs elsewhere. but please dont compare Laine to Olofsson. 6 players in the entire NHL have scored more goals than Laine since he came in to the league, 6! That’s it. If I’m way off base and Olafsson is one of them, my bad.

No.

Thank you for coming.

At least, the answer better be no. Ehlers and Dougie Hamilton also being there makes me think the trade board is BS, anyway. Ehlers is the best winger on the Jets, and the cheapest, while Hamilton was the best defenceman in the NHL before he got hurt

I actually think this is a legit offer but the Jets system is loaded with left shot D, it is our strongest depth position so for that reason I’d say no. We desperately need good right shot D.

So... a centre version of Kyle Connor whom can’t play well away from Gaudreau, and a 4-5 defenceman that never lived up to his potential? No thank you

Their skills sets are very similar. They both play their off wing on the PP and snipe. Laine has 1/3 of his NHL goals there. Olofsson has a nasty wrister on the opposite side. Olofsson put up 42p in 54 games as a rookie doing the same thing Laine does

Eichel plays where Laine does on the PP, so there is also no fit there. Im not taking Eichel off that spot, and Laine makes his living there.

There's no fit for a trade, let alone for 8 and Cozens

Ristolainen isn’t even an NHL player at 5v5. Just an okay PP quarterback

On a side note, the Jets dam well better not trade Ehlers!! I can see a team putting a big offer for Laine that’s hard to say no to, but I don’t see how we win an Ehlers trade.

I could be wrong but hasn’t Ehlers led all Jets in points, goals, and assists per minute played for three years!!! all the while barely playing with Shiefele our top center or ever playing top pp. It’s not his fault Maurice won’t play him More, get him on Our top line or play him on top PP. all things you’d expect from the guy who produces the most based on minutes played. And oh ya, he’s also your teams best player driver !!!

The smartest move is to see if Minnesota has any interest in their hometown kid Wheeler. It might be the only place Wheeler would waive his no move to goto and it gets us out of what is now our worst contract.

We desperately need a 2nd line C!

So, I turn to NJ, with lots of cap space and two young centres (plus a high draft choice) and I offer them:

Laine, Perreault, Pionk and Vesalainen - Hischier, Severson and a 4th rd'er. NJ still has Hughes and whoever they draft to feed Laine.

I definitely trade Laine for that C, but Ehlers is untouchable!

Sign UFA Joel Edmondson!

We then draft a RW or RD if a quality one avail;able at pick #10.

Over pay or not enough?

Huge overpay.

-Laine has a higher perceived value than Hischier.
-Pionk has a higher perceived value than Severson.
-Vesalainen is way too valuable to be an add on, let alone in a trade that’s already a loss.
-Additionally, Edmundson isn’t good. He’s Beaulieu and Kulikov in a shiny new box.

Having said that, Hischier and Severson are both better in reality than Laine and Pionk, but won’t be viewed as such by other GMs.
We also do not “desperately” need a 2C. We have one in Andrew Copp. We desperately need a coach willing to try new things and/or be good at his job.

This is simply "fake news" from the Toronto sports media. Winnipeg is a draft and develop team. They are not trading away a 22 year old 40 goal scorer who hasn't even played the majority of his time on the top line. The only way the Jets trade with Buffalo is if they are going for Eichel and their is no way Buffalo is trading him. The Jets are most likely going to look at a bargain deal with a team that is desperate for cap relief. The player that is expendable for that is Jack Roslovic.

Throwing in a right sided prospect is not enough. The Jets are stacked with defenceman in the system. They lack centers in their system. The Jets have Sami Niku who won the Eddie Shore Award playing the ride side 2 years ago in the AHL but spent almost all last year injured when it was time for the NHL jump. They also have a Jonhathan Kovacevic who's a 6'4" shut down right sided defencemen almost ready for the NHL who had an excellent season with the Moose. Leon Gawanke also exceeded expectations on the right side. The Jets will sign a player like Hamonic to a reasonable contract to buy them time until their defence prospects are ready for the NHL jump.

Chevy has the confidence of the ownership. If he swings and misses after being handed the 2nd overall pick when the Jets were a bubble wildcard team, consider seeing him getting his walking papers the way John Fergasun should of been sent walking for getting 2 first round busts for Teemu Selanne.

I agree with Ross. The Jets have Dylan Samburg who will challenge for a roster spot on the left. Sami Niku is a natural left that prefers the right side. From interviews with Maurice, I would expect he gets put on the left side as he can no longer clear waivers. Ville Heinola on the left side looked like he was the 2nd best defencemen the Jets had before they shipped him back to Finland after his 8 game trial at the beginning of the season. Winnipeg also has former 1st rounder Logan Stanley who a lot of Jets fans have written off but still has NHL potential as a 3rd pairing D-man and would still be an upgrade with Anthony Bitetto.

Dear lord

Yes. We can't wait to trade our franchise, over point-per-game center for your 28 goal winger
