The article said Holland though the asking price was too rich and so ended negotiations. Not sure what bidding war is existent here.

All I see is a GM (Rutherford) trying to get a first rounder and playing catch up trade ,because he decided it would be funny to give his first for a 3rd line player......

Nylander is a 24 year old 40 goal scorer. He won't be traded for a left shot defenceman who was scratched multiple times in the playoffs (Ghost)! Leafs need Right defencemen. While Sanheim is a special player, as Jonas Siegel analyzed in detail in his Athletic article on Leafs defence targets, Nylander would likely only be part of a deal if the Leafs could land RD Ekblad, Parayko or Hamilton in return.

I wouldn't trade Nylander period let alone for either of those 2 D's. Go big or don't go at all, just wait...I would be furious if this happened
