Would you do JG ($6.75M) and Backlund ($5.35M) for Cousins, Okposo ($6M x 2 years), and Risto (5.4M x 1 year) and LHD prospect Pilut (who is not going to sign with Bufflo)?
Buffalo gets out of 2 horrible contracts and gets a legit playmaker for Eichel and a good 2C.
Calgary gets their future 1C and a possible top 4 D in the future.
I do not claim to be good at these proposals but if we are retooling it takes on some bad contracts to get us what we need. - DuranDuran
Hell no thats way worse than the Mony/Benny offer earlier. |

Its one year of Risto and 2 years of Okposo. We get a 1C for losing 1 year of JG and and 3 years of Backlund who is on the wrong side of 30.....I wish I could blame the booze but I have not even been drinking today |

From the Sabers Blogger.
Buffalo gets C, Monahan and F, Bennett
Calgary gets 2020 eighth-overall, RHD Ristolainen and the rights to LHD Pilut.

You guy's are just like Sabres fans, you overvalue your players. |

I'm not sure you get the concept of retooling. Retooling is making minor moves that'll hopefully compliment your good players better than last year. It does not mean trading your best player and another good player for bad players and prospects. The Flames don't even get close to the playoffs next year if they make that trade.
Cozens had played zero games at a pro level, and you're already stamping him in as the future 1C.
The biggest names I could see the Flames moving would be Hanifin and Ryan. |

Ignoring the fact that he took an expansion franchise to the Cup final in year one? Or that he took the Panthers from a 29 win team to a 47 win team in 2 years?
Not to say Ward couldn't do those things, the team clearly played better under him than Peters, but he's more of a wildcard than Gallant. Gallant is a legit NHL head coach and that shouldn't be ignored just because Ward put the team on a decent path in 42 games. - rmull905
The Knights are a good team, one of the best...they had unique expansion rules. They fired his ass and are still a contender.
His panthers team lost in the first round...and the rest of his coaching career is bad to okay.
Gallant is nothing special

Risto is a bad contract and therefore negative value. If you want a team to take him you pay, not get paid.
This is especially true when we are trading two known commodities (1/2C and a 3C) for two unknowns (high pick + prospect).
So that deal just won't fly for Calgary plain and simple. Why would we trade a sure thing for futures in a win-now scenario? |

With the all but official Ward coming back news...
I made a re-tool/re-build team that would be fun as hell to watch:

Ottawa seems to want a winger while Buffalo seems to want a centre though so maybe swap the two around but it's the same end result. |

I am not talking about Risto, I would not think you guys would take him in the first place, and he isn't as bad as people say, unfortunately he has played on some really bad Buffalo teams. I am talking about Bennett, he has shown up in the playoffs, but he disappears through most of the season. And your own blogger has suggested Monahan being traded, and the 8th and good prospect which Pilut is, is a fair deal. |

Dude, that is a myopic view - the Knights were an expansion team cobbled together out of castaways when he took them to the Cup final. Since then, they've traded for Pacioretty, Lehner and Stone, have had young guys ascend (Tuch, Glass, Theodore) and, yes, are still a contender. There was not an expert out there that had them doing anything in their first season.
And sure, the Panthers lost in the first round. Doesn't mean they weren't a good team led by a pretty decent coach. Unless, you know, Jon Cooper and the Lightning are trash for having been swept last year...
As for the "rest" of his career - his last head coaching gig before the Knights was in 2007. GTFOH with that poop. |
