Nothing, yet. I've mostly been hearing that the AHL is so gate-driven that it doesn't think it can operate without fans in the stands. NHL is keeping an eye on football and other leagues to see if there's a way it can get some people in buildings for next season, whenever that might be. I imagine the AHL is keeping an eye on the same thing.

The NHL won't really have money to spare to help fund the minors, but will still need someplace for their prospects and call-ups to play. Border concerns could also an issue for a team like the Canucks, with a U.S. affiliate. All very complicated!

The factor that you two are not acknowledging is that most AHL teams are owned by their NHL parent clubs. Other then just contracted players they have interests to link their seasons together. TV money will be needed if they can make such a deal.

Was that when you said the Comets were not owned by the Canucks? Excuse me for seeing different that the two leagues are linked and want to find a way to make it work through TV revenue if possible.

However, that said these are very uncertain times and as you keep saying the NHL season is unlikely. So we'll see what they can put together. TV viewership is up and content is down so something may be there. Amazon alone would be a great sponsor along with these food delivery corporations.

The simple solution(which is bad for fans) is to charge based on a per team basis. No more Canucks are included with SNET package in the west, Oilers/Flames for AB customers. You will have a Centre Ice like option for each team, and different pay options for watching your team(s).

As an example, the TV deal includes Canucks and Utica, and fans have to pay $10/month to watch both teams. Each team and its affiliate is the same, and then there is a price to watch all teams in the NHL and their affiliates. It is an option that will keep both leagues going until they can start getting gate revenue again.

Do you know if they still have to pay for the player contracts?

Losses can be mitigated through TV revenue and new sponsors (companies that did well in Covid market)
