Toronto and MAF makes no sense. To get him and have Vegas retain would require a first or a good roster player. That's a massive over payment when they have a guy who's about just as good, especially considering contract duration. |

Hey Ek. Isn't Guerin's timing really awful? If he was trying to discuss a Dumba trade last week, he was in a strong bargaining position as he could always bluff and say that he'll just keep Dumba and maybe hang up the phone to talk to team X about trading for Brodin instead.
Now that he handed Brodin a NMC, the other 30 GMs basically know he has to move Dumba. Guerin lost all of his leverage. The low-ball offers will commence.
Surprised you and your sources think this is such a great move. He should have made a handshake deal with Brodin to announce this after he extracts max value in a Dumba trade. But I also think Guerin is a fool, whereas we know you love him. |

Why would Vegas send Fluery to San Jose? They wouldn't do a deal to make them better |

If Guerin would have put Dumba on the market before signing Brodin, Brodin's agent would have had the leverage to sign for more money... ever thought of that? |

I find it hard to be excited by player movement. This whole "Late January, Early February" estimated season start date has taken the wind from my sails. I haven't seen a devils logo on the ice in what seems like a decade. |

Driving the price up for Fast? Nahhhh
We already have a better similar style player in Lehky. Habs need game changers not more scrubs. |

So you think Brodin could have actually got MORE money than this? $42M and a NMC already suggests that Guerin was run over in negotiations.
But OK. I'll play along. If Dumba was traded then what does Brodin get...$6.5M instead of $6M? So let's see:
Option 1 - Lose badly on a Dumba trade. But lock up Brodin for $6M.
Option 2 - Win a Dumba trade. But pay an extra $500K to Brodin.
I like smart asset management so I take Option 2 all day long. And I'm not even sure Dumba being traded allows Brodin to squeeze out more money anyway. $42M and a NMC is already embarassing for Guerin. |

The rumors on Brodin was he was looking at Suter/Spurgeon money, so in excess of $7.5 mil. And it's not really a stretch for Guerin to say that he is keeping all 4 Dmen as well when dealing with the Seattle expansion draft. Keeping 8 skaters would allow them to keep all 4 dmen. And, if you really look at the roster, are there really more than 4 forwards that would be difficult to replace from the Wild's roster?
Basically, Guerin has just said "come to me with your best offer for Dumba, or don't call" to the entire NHL. We all knew that Brodin was going to be staying in MN and that Dumba was the better of the trade chips. |

I don't see how Guerin can LOSE BADLY on a Dumba trade (26 years old, excellent value), and why he should be EMBARASSED by locking up Brodin to a market value deal.
To each his own.

How are the Sharks trading for MAF? Is Martin Jones retiring? 4 years left at 5.75 mil AAV with a NTC. |

I hope the Devil's sign Jasper Fast. Make a line of Jesper Bratt on Center, Jesper Boqvist on the left and Jasper Fast on Right. What would call this line? J cubed line? |

So protect Dumba and then lose a kid like Eriksson-Ek, Greenway, Donato, Kunin? Not how I'd manage assets. As I said, all you had to do was agree to a handshake deal with Brodin. This is what we're doing, but let's keep it quiet for a month so I can improve my bargaining power in trade talks. Savvy GMs do that. Guys like Guerinn don't. |
