Anthony Travalgia: Can Matt Grzelcyk handle an increased role on Bruins blueline? With the likely departure of Torey Krug, it's expected Matt Grzelcyk will have an increased role in 2020-21.

Sure.

Will he handle it well?

I think Gryz and Mcavoy like playing with each other but I dont know if that would be a favorable top D pairing. It might unlock some more offense out of the both of them but I would match Gryz with Carlo and find a bigger body that can play with Mcavoy.

Outstanding second pairing, top pairing? No way! All those great stats listed were with the two of them playing second pairing while Z and Carlo were top pairing.

I would think if Krug does move on that McAvoy would be the guy taking his spot. I just worry about McAvoy staying healthy for a full season.

Taking his place where? On the PP? Nah, that will be Gryz's spot unless they decide to shake things up and go 2D on the first unit PP.

Whatever pairing McAvoy is on, is the top pairing. I think we will see Charlie and Gryz both get shots on the top PP unit.

Yup - Charlie averaged 23+ minutes a minutes a night.

Would be a shame if they can't work things out with Chara - but he slowing down a lot and looked out of place at times during the playoffs.

Yeah i am afraid that Cam Neelys comment of "brutally honest" might have been aimed at Chara. He is an incredible penalty killer and still serviceable. I would think they would get another year deal done.

Can't picture him playing for another team so likely a 1-and-done deal or he retires.

Agreed on McAvoy being top pairing, just saying it would be a mistake if Gryz was there with him. Unless again we like half of our top pair getting pushed around in the d-zone by cup contenders.

I like the idea of giving Gryz and Mcavoy some offensive zone starts and finding a good partner for Carlo to make a shutdown pair. Zadorov maybe? He and Nichushkin in Colorado are both RFAs and I think they could be had. I’m interested in both of them
