Thanks for bringing that up. I'd love to know how many of Sam's goals were the exquisite tip-ins. I know, all goals count but damn Risto can stand in front of the net and if he had the same hand-eye coordination you would all love him too. - GilPerreault11
Well pretty much none of Sam's goals were short handed, a hard slap shot, or break away goals.

Who were St. Louis’s two best wingers last year? Tarasenko was out.
Are you going to convince me Jaden Schwartz and David Perron are better than Skinner and Reinhart? - sbroads24
Perron and Schwartz combine for $9.3M in cap space as well. |

Sam 60-70
VO 35-45 - ImThatGuy
The kid had 42 this year and he missed 15 games. Why don't we just sign both of them as long as Rhino isn't over 6.5mill |

Perron is a competitive scorer had 60 pts without an Eichel this year, Sshwartz had stored in the 20 goal range and mid to high 50's and plays with attitude without an Eichel and they aren't even the top two wingers because Tarasenko is on the team who helped them win the Cup the year before. |

And their top 2 centers combined for less than Eichel and Staal.
Guess we’re screwed or something |

When those contracts were signed, what was the percentage of the cap? They’re relatively older contracts I believe. Sorry not really feeling the dive into the stats right now. Just a thought to counter the point above |

Being that sam and olo are the same age, who has more room to grow? The rookie or the high end draft pick?
What point totals do you predict next year out of them? - Boss34
That's a great question. I think Sam becomes a 70 point player. Think VO is a 60. |

These arguments are so silly.
Every year a team built totally different wins the cup.
St. Louis was big and physical and got great goaltending
Tampa has the deepest roster in the league.
Next year the fastest team will win
Just get more good players and stop being worried about the good ones we already have |

I’d have been ok with that for us
Wow
Pretty good the previous 5yrs or so,
but looked like crap this past season
And he’s 34
So maybe a smart decision to pass on him

CBUS would be better of keeping him and trying to dump off Jenner, Foligno, Atkinson and Dubinsky, who only has a year left on that contract, finally. If they keep a little celery, they can move one of those bad contracts. I'd take Foligno for Okposo straight up. - 3rd GM's the charm

Eichel is worth every penny of his deal.
There are several Sabres that aren’t earning every penny of their deals.
That’s the difference. |

VO skates pretty well and I called him a 2nd line player today the Sabres got him in the 7th round where draft picks go to die.
The Sabres got Sam at #2 overall where draft picks go to thrive, become franchise players, all-stars, HOFers perhaps, get out in their community and go to children's hospitals
Being a realist is liberating some of you should try it. - GilPerreault11
You're simply just disappointed he's not playing up to what some high end 2OA picks play to, and ignoring and or not appreciating the player he is and what he provides. It appears that it clouds your judgement. I at least understand Boss' stance, he just doesn't like Sam the player, and that's totally fine. Gerbe just hates him because he doesn't understand actual math. But you.. I always feel like you just hate him because he's underwhelmed you given his draft position. Which is fine. But I don't think it's a good reason to hate on a player and his positive contributions. |

I am not a big Rhino fan, but he is a good player, that has good chemistry with Eichel, unless you have a plan for another top 6 RW it is stupid to trade him, especially when he is are only top 6 RW. Unless his contract demands are ridiculous, I would sign him, and by ridiculous I mean anything over 7mill. |

Fair enough
They will probably be paid 100,000 per point with your ratio.
I thought olloffson looked much better late in the season 5 x 5. Not sure if anyone has any stats.
Didnt everyone suck 5 x 5 ? How do sam and olo compare? - Boss34
He absolutely grew as a player. He has more growing to do and I expect it to come based on his past.

I mean in that case trade the 8th overall pick for Josh Anderson.
As long as we get a good player it’s ok to disregard the worth of the asset used to acquire him ?
I like Sam, he’s a top 6 forward and I’d sign him to a moderate term deal at the right price however with the 2nd OA pick you need to walk out with a “Leon Draisatil” type talent.
Say what you want but that miss has led to a domino of moves that have us sitting here at this point.
Perhaps everything happens for a reason, ultimately we ended up with Dahlin, Cozens, and are about to add another core player in less than 24 hours.
However the entire complexion of the team changes with Driaisatil.
ROR might still be here. Babcock might be behind the bench. Does Stammer possibly choose us ?
It’s impossible to know or even speculate and the argument is moot but asset management is key to any business.
We used one of the most sought after assets in the NHL and got a good forward however not market value. |
