Hockey Prospect's Black Book actually had Jack Quinn rated higher than Rossi and here is what they had to say.

That's a good find. Everyone is gonna have there own opinion, he's a Sabre know and hopefully he fits nicely into are top 6 soon.

Y'all are craaaaazy.

The guy was ranked 11th in concensus rankings. He got picked 8th. Ooohhh noes! He's a 6' sniper instead of a diminutive center. Seems like a preference thing. Could be a good player, could be a bust, and anyone pretending they know which is full of bull poop.

As usual, this board is full of clowns who don't understand drafting. Either Quinn will be a good player in which case if they redrafted he would go higher than 8th, or else he will be a bad pick who wouldn't even get taken in a redraft three years from now. 8th or 11th or 14th
makes no difference. Obsessing because a guy gets drafted over another guy and 98% of you never watched either play a game. Sigh.

This whole culture of mock drafts and draft experts is illogical and ridiculous.

Scott Wheeler from the Athletic:

Pick: 8. Jack Quinn
My ranking: No. 15 (change: +7)

“Though I didn’t love the Senators taking Sanderson at No. 5, Quinn was the first real reach of the draft for me. And that has less to do with Quinn’s ability as a prospect (he’s a multi-faceted individual creator who’s game has detail and who’s frame lends itself to continue growth and potential yet-to-be-scratched level) than it does with who else was available. As good as Quinn is, and as exciting as his late-blooming development curve is, there just isn’t a case, for me, for him as a better prospect than a Perfetti or a Rossi. That Rossi was on Quinn’s team, and clearly the best player on that team, makes the pick a weird one for me.”

This isn't necessarily about you ... but now I gotta listen to this kinda of crap for the next few years ? B!tching and whining is mostly what goes on in these blogs - so I have to question why do I even come here ? This constant negativity isn't really good for me, or any of us for that matter. Chill man ! It's just a game.

We picked a great player - that's really the bottom line. I'm happy we drafted Jack Quinn.

Now .... will there even be a season ? Might have to start thinking about that.

I'm looking forward to your new avi

I will also accept a picture of MUG Rootbeer, but your team must become the Buffalo Sabres

This is how my day went:
No way Rossi falls
Rossi fell , we got a steal
Took Quinn, what a mistake
Quinn is a good player, but Rossi is better
Well actually, I’m not an nhl scout
Nor was I in the meetings with all the players
Back to Quinn being a good player. Let’s get more good players
Fin

Honestly, it’s done gents. Let’s be happy we got a good player. We have proven we can revisit the mistake/good decision endlessly 7 years later. But for today we got a good player

I’m sure every prospect would say that.

I would like to think Cozens came to training camp last year with the intent to crack the Sabres lineup as well.

- Pegullaville

I don't agree that 22-23 is realistic. 21-22 is definitely realistic.

I loved the pick a second after it was made. Although I was off the bat puzzled by not taking Rossi, after reading about Quinn earlier in the day, I had little doubt the Sabres loved him.

I love the player, I love the potential.

This.

No one here is.

And anyone who claims they've watched "tape" (and I don't mean 6 random shifts or specific highlights) of both Rossi and Quinn, and studied every single facet of their game? Well, 99.9% of you are full of sh!t.

Good read about what's available for the Sabres with their 2nd round pick (hint: there's still many good players available).

Think I've watched 20 minutes of him ever since it first came out that the Sabres really liked him a week or two ago. I really enjoy his game. What actually sold me on him was the background information, the personality, the intangibles, the consistency.

He sounds like he wants it, and the lightbulb finally went on for him at around 16 years old that he actually had to work out and take care of himself. Sounds like he has the heart to go along with the talent.

People talk about the shooting pct of around 21%, that it's not sustainable, and that's probably true.

What IS sustainable, though, is that he works to get to the open areas of the ice to unleash what is apparently a very quick release and deadly accurate shot.

Does anyone know what time round 2 starts? Usually a Saturday and 12 noon, I believe?

Edit: seems to be at 11:30am EST (of course, lol)

And there is that word again...."potential"..... The Sabres have been loaded with it for a decade now and where has it gotten them?

Focusing on that scares me when deciding to make a pick, especially when the player picked after him has all the intangibles and may be the hardest working player in the entire draft, both off and on the ice.

One way or the other Quinn will wear the Sabres sweater at some point.

Worst case scenario he ends up being a middle 6 forward like a Drew Stafford.

Realistically I see him like TJ Oshie or Tyler Toffoli scoring 25 goals and playing with some grit.

The pick definitely makes sense to me as the organization did lack a trigger man who could play the right side, I just don’t believe in the mantra that we went BPA.

I'm not suggesting they focused on it, I'm suggesting it had a factor in it. But they clearly believe in his ceiling. So, let's move on and stop the god damn sulking (generally).

You, me, and some others are on the same page with the bold above.

We're all hoping Quinn turns out great because we're Sabres fans.

Teams reach all the time in the 1st round. Hell, check out some of the picks other teams made later in the 1st round.

It feels like teams try to be too smart or cagey sometimes rather than taking the obvious player who has proven they can produce offensively.

Crazy thought. What if they believe that he has a higher ceiling than Rossi. Is it possible they believe that, and is it possible that Quinn achieves that.

Maybe they reached, maybe they didn't. I'll tell you who did though, it's Columbus.

It is absolutely possible, however, there is little evidence to date that shows that's a real possibility.

In the end, who cares if he ends up better than Rossi. All that matters is that he turns into a quality impactful player for the Sabres.
