Actually it's not. If you read scouting reports about him as new as the past CHL season that ended, thats why people like him.

Guaranteed 3rd liner, with potential for top 6.

- Mentalorgasm5

Cozens is a Lock for the top 6.

Only question at this point is if it’s at Center or on the Wing.

Jack Quinn is a guaranteed 3rd liner, with potential for top 6.

Cozens has better odds of a ceiling of a 3rd liner.
- Mentalorgasm5

Not sure I agree with this sentiment. Ceiling wise, the kid is a fill-in top center (not a true 1C). Like... Blake Wheeler, Rickard Rakell, Sean Monahan

The best part of picking Quinn over Rossi is that Quinn is less NHL ready than Rossi for the coming season, which means it's even more imperative that Adams bolster the NHL roster via trades and signings.
- kingcong39

That actually is the best part. Maybe we stop rushing our prospects and acquire NHL talent.

Let's stop being Edmonton front office, and a little more like Tampa.

I’m sure every prospect would say that.

I would like to think Cozens came to training camp last year with the intent to crack the Sabres lineup as well.

- Pegullaville

I'm sure every prospect (wouldn't) say that.

I'd like to think cozens intended to crack the lineup.

Per Devils SB back in April.

Where Would Quinn Fit?: While draft profiles regard him as an all-position option at forward, I would strictly focus his development on his play as a winger. He would play well with a center that can crash the net for his rebounds, and I would rather focus on attaining his offensive ceiling than try to have him learn the defensive responsibility of being an NHL center. He seems to be a skater focused on economy of movement away from the puck rather than complex maneuvers with the puck in order to get the play he wants - and that bodes well for a team that is built too much on the individual efforts of a few players.

Hm.. I wonder which team is like that.

He is faster compared to players at his size. But skill set, comparing him to wheeler is a stretch imo.

Mittelstadt was hyped the same way before he hit the ice.

Oh I'm not comparing him to players skill sets, I'm simply saying, here's current NHLers that are more so strong 2Cs or top wingers who can fill in at 1C, effectively.

Sounds more and more that this kid will be a winger, as drafted.

Cozens is no lock for a top 6.

The athletic had him ranked as the best prospect not in the NHL since his floor was the 3rd line and he had a shot at top 6.

Its just another case of fans romantizing the future. Let's stop the circle jerk, dude hasn't skated up.

Hey maybe he helps this or next season.

Trading the pick was discussed all the time, but it didn't appear any teams were willing to really do that.

Hey I hope he is a perennial 30 goal scorer.

Inject it into my veins.

I’m having 2014 PTSD right now though and nothing you say is going to help with that.

Hopefully he does sit on Jacks wing and collects the garbage for the next 10 years

Cozens is an extremely good player. He universally projects in the top 6. He may take a bit of time to get there, maybe.. but him and Quinn both are very strong top 6 players.

Hopefully Adams has a plan here to bring in another Center. That will help me breathe a little easier here.

I’m happy. We need a high end goal scorer and he seems it.

I do think we are gonna suck this year still though unless Reinhart/Risto/Montour are flipped for NHL players and we change our culture.

Or just concede we suck one more year and trade those guys for prospects that will be ready next year

"We need to improve this hockey team"

He knows full well moves need to be made. Fortunately, he's forced to do so with all the bottom 6 leaving.

Do you Remember when our third line was Pomminville-Roy-Vanek.

That was awesome...

Olofsson-Eichel-Quinn
Skinner-Cozens-Reinhart.

Gives Cozens the better wingers but I think Jack can carry Quinn like he carries Olofsson.

If there is some silver lining here I think the Quinn pick does show a belief in Cozens being our 2C for a long time.

This one was agonizing because Cozens doesn’t have a star-level quality that some of the six players that follow him on this list do. I can see outcomes for each of the next half dozen names in my ranking where they go on to have a higher ceiling than Cozens. Other things, like that Cozens is going to have to play behind Jack Eichel (while Trevor Zegras and Cole Caufield have a more direct trajectory to the first line within their organizations) and may not reach his full ceiling as a result, can creep in and cloud your judgment if you let them, too.

maybe not, the athletic mentions he might not reach that ceiling, but he is gonna hit his floor.

That was the last time I bought the jersey of a third liner (Pommer)

I know Vanner was a high 1st, but the other 2 were middling seconds, and that's why you need to hit on them.
