We can do better and a better contract also
- SABRES 89

50 point player is going to cost 5 to 6 million a year, seems right in line with market value.

Depends on the return for me.

Schmaltz on the right wing as a play making winger for Skinner intrigues me.

But because of that contract we should really be not giving up much of anything.

- Pegullaville

Agreed.

He led their team in scoring last year, can dish the puck (that's always been his forte), but doesn't shoot enough.

The contract isn't great. Let's see (if) what we're trading first.

Schmatlz is making $5.85M per against the cap for the next 6 years, until he turns 30.

His actual salary his final 3 season is: $7.5M, $8.45M, & $8.5M.

Hardly a lean move at all.

He is older and probably starts at 6 mil per.

Not that I would hate it, and not saying I want to go all in for schmaltz, but definitely wont be mad if we get either player.

Toffoli at his age and expected term would scare me off a bit.

I'd rather someone off all our radar and we say, huh, I didn't think of him, he wasn't in the rumors as a top 6 trade for us but I really like it.

Probably not. Send Casey too. Still might not be enough.

This is the issues with crappy drafting the last 3 years. No good prospects to dangle.

- Stripes77

True.
However, that said, if there is eve r a time to acquire good players for cheap, this and next off season are it.
I have to believe with the number of teams a) setting internal budgets below the Cap Ceiling (rumored to be about 17), combined with b) some number of additional teams up against the Cap ...Sabres should be able to secure a couple good players much more cost efficiently than before.
The downside is that Trad3s to u load some heavier contracts on the Sabres now just may prove to ge difficult.

If you had the choice and could only make one trade, would you rather get a goalie or the top 6 guy. I rather get the goalie right now I think.

His metrics are meh including his actual point totals.

I wouldn’t mind the move but I wouldn’t be giving Arizona anything substantial here.

- Pegullaville

He has a vanilla, hardly moves the needle impact at even strength.

The 2 seasons he had 45 and 52 points respectively, he scored 25-30% of his points on the power play, which won't happen in Buffalo as he won't get the same amount of power play time.

He's a 35 point even strength scorer. Hardly a big deal or worth his bloated contract.

Did I also mention that he has received 72% offensive zone starts the past 2 seasons at even strength?

The Sabres are among a long list of teams that are interested in Columbus' goalies. Acquisition cost is the big question here.

The Blue Jackets need help at center, a position the Sabres are thin at. A bigger trade might make more sense for CBJ.

We need two more forwards for the top 9. Ideally Kahun and Olofsson are on the 3rd, and we scope up a LW for line one. Someone like Johnsson(doesnt have to be him) in Toronto, a player who should be on the 3rd, but can be carried by Eichel and Reinhart.

I mean if it weren’t for Friedman saying anything this morning I think Schmaltz would have been that player.

Becomes a Buyout candidate the last 2 years if production isn't there.

I'm not advocating fle Schmaltz, but the flip side is with Staal and Him, Adam's will have added 2 players who combined were on pace for 110 pts; with 1 at 0.65 and the other at 0.71 ppg.
That would upgrade the 2nd line.
