Problem is we need a safe guy to play with our aggressive guy on the top line. Hughes was fantastic this year but still has a long way to go to become a true #1. Tanev was a key to his success this year.
I also want some punishing players but I prefer them fore checking than playing chasing guys around the net. - belcherbd
Quinn played very well with Schenn

Funny most of that describes the $6 million dollar giraffe more than stecher - classic321
Myers has a decent shot and can at least flatten the odd guy. He ain’t perfect but brings more to the table (although agreed he is overpaid) |

I know one of the reasons I stand out is because of my opinion. 99% of the people complain against Beagle Roussel and Sutter but aside from me and Makita the coach on the Canucks chose to play those three ahead of Jake Gauds Zack . I think in the Vegas 5-1 loss Beagle was not on for a goal. Those guys kill penalties win draws and stir the pot . If Jake stirred the pot it would be an easy choice. If Gauds won faceoffs and was reliable defensively again another easy choice.
I agree they need to improve the bottom 6 but right now the answer is not JV Zack or Gauds - VANTEL
In a cap world it's all about value per dollar, yes those guys play a role that coaches love, but are there other options out there that can PK and be responsible defensively while providing more erngy and a stronger forecheck. Other teams have more affordable players playing those roles, Canucks arguably have one guy like that themselves in Motte.
The Canucks lack of speed up front and inability to move the puck out of their own end was badly exposed vs Vegas. The Vegas dmen having that extra second to make an outlet pass due to the slower Canuck forecheck compared to the Canucks dmen being absolutely hounded by the tenancies speedy Vegas forwards was like watching men vs boys. Demko was the only treason why some of those games weren't blowouts.
I can't speak for you or others, but I'm tired of watching the Canucks forecheck always being a step behind. |

I don't know if Van wants to have Quinn play 3rd pairing against easy competition again. |

Nick Cousins not qualified by Vegas. That's the type of player I'd take in the bottom 6. |

They'd probably keep him if they could afford to, they need to save any money that can right now. They're in danger of even hitting the 10% over the cap limit during the offseason lol.
They had to choose between him or Stephenson, I bet they would've loved to keep both. |

That doesn't matter though. As long as Markstrom can make 40 saves a game. |

@DhaliwalSports on #Canucks & Stecher, "No attempt made today to renegotiate his salary to get a lower deal. No contract talks. It was simply we love the player, have a flat cap & attempting to sign our goaltender.
"They just cut ties with him. He’s going to go to market."
They love the player but don't want him back...I don't think that came out how RD wanted it to |

I bet he's on a back up plan list at the very least. JB may have a few options that he's trying to work out first.
