Chatfield is a mediocre top 4 AHL dman, I don't understand why he even gets mentioned lol

No, Vegas was just faster and more skilled. Canucks handled the physicality of the playoffs surprisingly well.

There's a reason why Benning has a hard on for puck moving dmen right now. He saw how the Stars handled the Vegas forecheck compared to the Canucks.

you mean glass and out isnt a solid strategy for generating offense in transition?? im shocked

Word it appears as if Tyler Toffoli will hit market due to VAN’s tight cap situation. Another scorer available in free agency

I put OJ, Rafferty and Rathbone ahead of him.

I think it’s Dillon & not spending anywhere near that.
- Nighthawk

We'll see but I think he will make sure he gets the guy who he's identified which usually means paying a premium early.

Steady defensive dman with an offensive partner be my guess.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's out of the AHL in a few years once he gets AHL veteran status since the AHL has a rule about only dressing a max number of vets per game.

Maybe he's trying to talk up his value as a prospect piece in a trade, I don't know. I'm sure Benning is aware of who his best D prospects are.

Not sure about Rafferty, I think his points last season are a bit of a mirage. I like Brisbois more than Chatfield but Rafferty and Chatfield are the only righties.

IMO this team has no RD nhl calibre depth and Woo is the only prospect.

I get that but with all the OEL talk and him being LHD, it doesnt seem to be a major factor anymore

That's why they should trade for Ekblad

Yeah, the D prospect pool is definitely weak. OJ, Woo and Rathbone are solid prospects, Rafferty is intriguing if his defensive game improves but after that it gets really bleak

Going to need a couple of them to pan out eventually once Edler is gone and Myers starts to age.

Hopefully Woo develops into a steady defensive dman that can transition the puck. I'm not sure about the others ever being reliable defensively.

Fair to say that about Rathbone I guess. He has no pro games yet. Chatfield is just Chat Pooh.

I think Rathbone is their best prospect dman but he's on the left side. Hopefully they can find somewhere for him to play next year.

In terms of pure upside, I agree. Woo is probably the one I'd say is the safest bet to carve out a career fo some kind, either as a depth guy or a top 4 dman.

Obviously all of them are far from a lock though.

Hopefully Benning can pull another rabbit out of his hat in the 5th round but so far defense doesn't seem to be his forte.

I think his Nephew would be an interesting guy to take a flyer on.

Younger Tanev.

Not saying I hope he plays. I'm not so concerned about getting skill to replace Tanev and Stecher. I'm looking more for size and grit off FA.

I mean he liked Gudbranson, Sbisa and Pooliot too. It's safe to say that outside of Hughes, the Canucks staff aren't the best at evaluating dmen compared to other teams. Most of the dmen the Canucks acquire don't live up to expectations.

I wouldn't stress about it. No way in hell will Travis Green have Jalen Chatfield in his top 6 depth chart.
