It seems a legit possibility that the UFAs end up walking (Markstrom and TT are both trending that way, with no recent news on Tanev) and the RFAs are all or mostly qualified.

Is this a much worse team if JB fails / chooses not to bring anyone else in?

Seems they would have to be weaker, as both TT and Markstrom are above-replacement, while their replacements (Jake?, Demko, one of our AHL D) are likely to be no better and likely not as good.

Hadn’t thought about this possibility up to the last day or two...would be a disappointing outcome of chasing OEL!

If we sign Marky, there is no point in keeping Demko, but the goalie market is flooded right now with people adding picks. Not the time to be trading goalies.

If Marky is resigned, you can be certain he will have expansion draft protection. Demko would have to be moved before the TDL this next season or they risk having to trade him for peanuts before the draft or lose him for nothing.

Seems he will be undervalued one way or another really when considering the market today and the loss of leverage later.
