You may be right, but UFA day is notorious for curveballs. That being said, what's a realistic figure for Fast? Shore? Cousins? - TheBrownListerine
Well, Fast should not get more than Rust imo... I could see 2.5 or even 3 mil a year as a high on Fast. His speed is just very enticing to many people out there. If he wants a Cup winner, might take around ~2.2 for 2 year deal and then go chase money if he has a good season.
Cousins 'should' be a bit less than Fast. Hasn't clipped 30 points and doesn't have the speed Fast does... so I'll just say 2 mil.
I don't really care much for Devin Shore... so lets just ignore him. |

Would have to send out someone... I vote for Tanev as he is obviously the weakest link of our towards that have a decent cap hit., but the more likely player would be Rust if JR was making moves.
Or... he sends out McCann, those two replace him and its a 3rd line of Fast, Cousins and Tanev. - Guile
Tanev would be difficult with the clause and all. |

I thought he'd maybe try and send out McCann earlier but I feel he would have pulled the trigger on it sooner. He'll probably see what he looks like as 3C to start, although I wouldn't be opposed to your latter idea. Fast, Cousins and Tanev would be a fast, mean, body banging line. Plus there isn't enough metric offense to show so it gives GMRW more to female dog about so sign me up! |

JR gave him a NTC/NMC too?
Google says its the 10 team no trade list... not the most difficult to work around at least. |

And that's what I'm afraid of- I think 3 is too much for Fast, just like it was for Tanev. I'd be ok with a 2.25 or something like that. I would have said Cousins would hit 2 as a ceiling.
Oh hell who are we kidding? #sutterwatch2020 |

I'm just gonna keep pretending there is a way to already get rid of Matheson and his albatross cap hit... roll the dice on a 3rd pairing of Riikola, Ruhwedel, Maniscalo and or POJ. Can find 3rd pairing Dmen for cheap if we need to grab a more experienced one.
Then we can maybe grab Fast or someone to bolster that 3rd line... 4th line should be fine. Whatever, its the 4th line. |

I guess they could give him the Schultz treatment and shelter him on the 3rd pairing and inflate his numbers with PP time on the 2nd unit. There most definitely will be injuries so we’ll most likely see POJ and Maniscalo at some point. If they can hold their own while being called up, I’m sure JR will try to sell high on Matheson
And by “sell high” I mean dumping him for whatever he can get |

I mean you can keep pretending, but moving either of those guys and not taking cap back is going to be pretty hard right now. |

I'd def be on board, but GMJR would have to get creative. For some reason I can see someone vastly overpaying for Fast. - TheBrownListerine
In a normal year, I might agree with you. But teams probably don't have the space for that right now.
Pens got 4.72M and need to squeeze in 2 forwards and leave room for a call up. So maybe a hair under 3M is what they could offer Fast if they kept the last spot cheap.
For everyone saying an extra 300k for Sceviour doesn't matter, it actually does right now.
And please nobody bring up saving ZAR's cap hit. His spot will be replaced by a guy who only makes about 100k less and he may just miss a month now. It's negligible. |

Actually I do, easily... but I don't want to deal Rust. Big speed, talented on the PK (not a specialist) and can put up 20 goals a year with even strength play.. at only 3.5 a year for this year and next. Thats a great asset on cap strapped teams. |

After the year he just had and his cap hit? I think Rust might get a 1st. That's also why he's too valuable to trade. |

I don't know how any team takes Matheson with how much term he has... unless he comes out looking (frank)ing amazing and then they let a twitter 'leak' or something of him butting heads with the coach or maybe Crosby/Malkin and its a "we are dealing this talented player due to personality conflict"... but that is SUCH a (frank)ing rare scenario to plan out. |

I understand what you're saying. Im just playing devils advocate. If we trade him could we fill holes to make up, or would him leaving leave even a bigger hole? |

I really like Wennberg’s game. The guy has some skill and is a good skater. Cousins would be decent too but isn’t in the same level. Turris ok too. We need $1-2M players. |

You are trading him... to bolster the 3rd line? But by removing him you weaken the mid 6. At best its a lateral move... but its going to be really hard to replace his play through FA at that cap hit or less. And Fast is no where near close to Rust.
Now if you claim packaging Rust with Matheson could shed without eating a ton of cap back... then I'll listen |

I was trading him to bolster 3rd line and possibly get a 3RD to play with Petterson.

Hell no, we have a good bargain/fair price top 6 wingers when the team is needing cap space. Rust isn't going anywhere. I'd move Zucker before Rust. |

We don't need to make trades to do that. And Pettersson will be playing with Marino. Matheson may need a partner on the third pair. |

Yeah I think you'd be creating a bigger problem. You'd have 2 holes on the right side then and that pick isn't going to get you a better player on a cheaper contract. |

Hell yea it would be a bigger problem. We're talking a possible 30 goal right handed winger at a good cap hit that you would be very hard pressed to replace at the same cap hit. |
