Not really sure why you're mad about it. Talbot was great last year.

Playing goal in Edmonton ruins everyone. Wild fans should be well aware that you shouldn't judge a goalie based on what they had to go for playing for the Oilers. 6 of his 7 years have been solid.

I honestly don't think it's that bad of a pickup. As long as the Wild continue to be one of the best teams for limiting high scoring chances, Talbot HAS to be better than Dubnyk on making saves on the chances that SHOULD be stopped.

I think this signing says a lot about Guerin's plan. He obviously didn't want Kahkonen with the Wild on a regular basis this year, and wants him to perfect his game in Iowa. Secondly, that keeps Kahkonen off of the expansion draft, where Stalock will be the goalie offering. I am pretty sure Seattle won't take him, but Talbot's second year might end up with Kahkonen as his backup, learning as much as he can. If Seattle doesn't take Stalock, his $785 cap slot is a very easy buyout. So that 3rd year of Talbot's (paying him $3.67 mil cap) could be for him to backup Kahkonen for a season. My guess is that Hunter Jones will be in Iowa next year (Year 2 of Talbot contract) and the year after that. Then Jones will become the backup to Kahkonen, or the batle it out to see who the #1 goalie is. Either way, this sets up the Wild to not have a goalie with a ridiculous cap # for at least the next 4 years.

Guerin is doing an excellent job of setting up a plan for the future, while not completely ignoring the present. Just look at a couple of the other goalie signings today....Holtby at $4.3 mil/yr for the next 2 years, and Murray signed at $6.25 mil/yr for the next 4 years. I'm pretty happy to have a goalie that should be at least decent for the next 2 years at $3.67/yr...with a chance to be even better. And everyone has wanted a Wild teardown for a few years now, maybe they ARE terrible this year, it's still good to have 2 goalies at a combined cap hit of less than $5.

Oops! My mistake, Kahkonen will also be a possible draftee by Seattle. But if Hunter Jones is playing in Iowa this year, by the 3rd year of Talbot's contract, Stalock will be gone and Jones could be the backup. So Guerin is setting the Wild to be covered with young goalies no matter what.

So if I am correct, there is only Greenway left to resign for the big club. And it's definitely a proven it or be gone year for Greenway. Was thinking about this a day or 2 ago...there is going to be some big bodies on the Wild's 3rd line if Greenway and Bjugstad are playing together on that line.

Great points Gus. Also, Talbots contract comes WITHOUT any no move or no trade protection. Another good decision by Guerin. I'm glad that you are like me in viewing all these moves he's making are clearly setting things up for the next couple years, and not just retooling for another mediocre season.

I like this signing for you guys. Talbot is underrated due to 1.5 bad years in Edmonton (which goalie doesnt struggle there?)

Wow. Three years of Talbot over two of maf? Epic fail.
