If only we knew. I’d look to move Marchessault and Martinez, clearing $9 million. Promote Tuch to L2, and get a third line winger for cheap. |

Schmidt to a team that needs a good Dman
Fleury and a 1st to some team like Detroit
Detroit retains 50% and flips him to the team he’s gonna play for, and keeps the 1st
New team gets Flower at 3.5 million for 2 years |

7 year contracts for 31 year old defenders, at top dollar, is always a wise move. |

I loved the guy, and we finally got a Cup......but yeah, at 31 when the season starts, I’m not sure about that length or those dollars. I’d also take issue with calling him “elite”. He is very good, but I wouldn’t call him great. For those dollars, that term, and the need to trade off a couple of players to make him fit, I think Vegas fans will end up being a little bit disappointed. Oh well, good luck to Petro. |

Awesome get for VGK. Yikes on the $ for a No.1 RHD but was to be somewhat expected. Makes we worried about the Leafs and Reilly. Don’t think he takes anything less than $7.5M-$8M given his numbers are 5-6pp season below AP and he is will be 2.5years younger at UFA. Hopefully cap goes up by then |

It's a good deal for Vegas for the first half of this contract. After this, things become murky.

Could you guys not find any suitors Schmidt for a 3rd outside the division? |

Like the move as you explained for the first half of the 7 year deal. Also, as you updated the follow up of moving Schmidt to get under or right at the cap ceiling. Though, to bring in anyone else will have to be money match for whomever goes . Jeff do you think this is all they will do before next season and that trade deadline? |

5x5.95 and a NTC for Schmidt
They took what they could to get the other deal done

Despite adding AP Vegas is much worse. That Schmidt deal is an absolute joke. AP is not worth that. |

Prob 2 or 3 year window to win a cup otherwise this gets sideways quick. |

So you're saying that Schmidt is overall a better player than Pietrangelo? I think just about every hockey analyst would disagree with you here.

Well they upgraded at D...they did lose their 2nd line center though and still have cap issues

Terrible move. He's not that good. Not worth having to move two good players. Especially with the prospects on D in your system.
The Blues turned around their Championship season while Petro was out, injured. He did not travel with the team. He was great in those play offs. He's usually not the greatest in the play offs but good. He had an anamoly of a season. He's not consistently dominant.
His best attribute is making room in the corners to get the puck up ice. He's not good at boxing out and tends to get beat down low.
So thank you. This would have cost the Blues far too much. I was hoping he would have been traded prior to last season starting while his value was high. |

According to Larry Brooks, as of last week Blues were preparing to file tampering charges should Pietrangelo sign with Vegas. Wonder if they have the evidence to actually do so.

terrible move. Trade a player worth more than a third rounder inside division lol still have to move another player. Terrible asset management. |

Vegas is like a kid in the candy store. Sign a player long term then a year later, trade them for the next big name to come available. I doubt any future signings are giving any hometown discounts after this. |

VGK essentially traded Stastny and Schmidt (to a division rival) for Petro and some crappy picks. How much better did they really get? |

Stastny's money went to Lehner
Schmidt's position went to Petro
Stastny and Schmidt
for
Lehner, Petro, Dahlstrom, 3rd, 4th
Stastny was pretty washed. When they eventually move Fleury, whoever they get with those $$ can be put on to the "for" pile
|
|
|
|
You can play those games endlessly and allocate the money any way you want. They had Lehner already and were cap compliant. The player they gained was Petro and they lost Stastny and Schmidt. |

It's a ballsy move for sure. Shipping out Schmidt and Statsy certainly makes you question if their team is better. And ya, that contract sure buts the GM's raisins in a vice. Basically have to win the cup in the next 3 seasons, or this could be considered a disaster of a move. Great team, but only time will tell if it pays off. |
