Well, those changes won't have an impact this year - they go into effect next year after the census. The projections for electoral votes doesn't seem to be impacted by that one way or the other. It is more about population movement between the states. I believe when I was a Ute, NY had 41 electoral votes and FL something in the high teens. Now NY will have fewer than FL. Lots of people moving to FL and TX in the last 10 years. - mohel
Then why is it being contested? Probably is and that's why it's going to the SC.
I also don't know where i said it would impact this election? But yea duh |

The census involves many issues, electoral apportionment is just one. |

19, 88 and 7 need to be quiet. Their contracts are the reason Hawks are in yet another cap crunch. |

...only in the sense that one could predict that a pandemic would flat-line salary caps- and be able to do that like 8 years in the past.
It is what it is, and teams that spending to near the limit trying to forecast where that limit would be get hurt, and I am sure Chicago can't possibly be alone in that regard.
I don't imagine any of those guys are economics geniuses -which isn't a knock, per se - they're pro hockey players for a reason. I imagine they don't know nothing apart from they just wanna win (so to speak).

That would be nice, always good to see a low budget team (Rays)win. The Lightning have been knocking on the door for a few years, glad they won as well. I just moved to SW Florida, so I’ve adopted these teams as my second favorite teams. |

Theo great blog you wrote. Its a tale of 2 choices we fans and the organization have to face and embrace.
Toews knew exactly at the time he and kane inked their contracts as to the teams ultimate demise because of the cap Era.
Toews has 2 choices either take his gripes behind closed doors like a respectful athlete would and come to a agreement that either he stays or opts out of his contract and allows chicago to fully rebuild.
Either way the parties over - Taylorst1
I was looking to find on You Tube for some footage of their contract signing, to see if Toews starts laughing like an evil cartoon villain (Mwah-ha-ha-ha-ha) or looks at the camera and his pupils glow red or gives a knowing evil wink, but there was nothing. |

Well there was a time when even Bob McKenzie thought that salary cap upper limit might rise to 100 million eventually.

yes!
There were saying it might rise to$110-120 million, basically giving the big market teams a chance to be dynasties...and then Canada's loonie went plummeting.

Only Elbows and Sage saw him play live early in his career, but Pierre Pilote played 13 seasons with the Chicago Hockey Team, before one measly season in Toronto. - mohel
My first thought when the questions asked was Pilote b/c he played in St. Catherines Blackhawks, turned pro outside the hawk organization with Buffalo's independent AHL club
and they basically purchased the team (Buffalo Bisons) to get his rights back.
But then in his last pro season all with Hawks, he went to the Leafs.
And I retest that you thought of the afformnetion duo as "seeing" Pilote.
I saw him every game he played from !964- on live.
I bet they don't remember the cloth sign some one would hang on one of the ends of the balcony about PILOTE....
I will return later to see if they saw him or minds can recall that sign.
That dan placed it there before each game for years... |

Relative to the rest of the League our Cap situation is not that bad right now. If we can get some ELC's to make an impact, things will not be as dire as many think.
I am still cursing the Oilers for messing things up somewhat for us for their no show during the play in round. |

That would be pretty cool.
The last time the lightning won the cup the lockout followed so they got screwed out of their banner raising the following year. This time it's covid. |

Patrik Laine - MjulQvist
Would Beaudin be attractive replacement for Carlsson? Only because we need Carlsson style on defense. Beaudin might be a future solid #2 pair. Carlsdon likely solid any pair. I hoped to see Carlsson pair with Boqvist eventually. They had some time as a pair back in Sweden.
I would say this would have been a serious offer if Winnipeg had not already brought Statsny back. Just where is Strome going to line up. Same usage situation back and forth 2nd or third line. But if DCat part of trade, then you have the DCat-Strome history. I just do not think Chevy wants two slow pivots in Statsny and Strome
Reports say Laine was productive with Statsny in their previous tenure in Winnipeg. I wonder if Laine taken off market

I'm sure you probably know this Wiz - Pilote never played an organized game of hockey for a team until he was 17 years old. Before Rudy Pilous signed him with the St. Catharines Jr.A team, a Jr. B team in Niagara Falls cut him. And how many years after that did he win the Norris Trophy? Pretty amazing even for that era.
And one of the reasons he went to play with Buffalo in the American Hockey League was because it was a very short drive over the Peace Bridge to the old Buffalo Auditorium from his parent's house in Fort Erie. In those days you didn't really even need ID to go back and forth between countries. The border guys were big hockey fans and they knew all of the players with the Bisons. And that continued for a long time even after the Sabres came into the NHL in 1970. |

Half of 70 games = 35 games I saw.
Original Six, you played five teams an equal number home and and away.
so 5 teams 7 times at home and 7 times away...

They played each team about once every two weeks.
Plus reserve clause and no free agency kept player movement to a minimum.
Lots of opportunity to build up animosity between teams. |
