I get they have to placate to the players union and the players themselves but I agree there should be a happy medium especially under these circumstances.

I really expected this as well. you have Covid, Season starting so late, and the guys who get bought out will still be getting their money if a team chooses to do it. It would allow guys to get paid that are UFA and some of the guys getting bought out to get another contract on top of it...

Maybe they do it next year after the expansion draft? who knows..

Chara- I can't imagine he would come back to play for any team other than Boston. I have been wrong before, but my guess is it's pretty much done deal either way....(meaning he is coming back or not and they are aware of it already).

(A compliance buyout, which does not count against the cap, was part of both the 2005 and 2013 negotiations.) However, the plan failed for the same reason it failed during CBA negotiations — who was going to pay for it?

The real question is; what can we get for Richard Park?

funny... usually you would think the owners would want the buy-out, but maybe when they asked them they all said; "no". I mean they obviously are not making a lot of money selling tickets last year, and if there was a buy out and they failed to use it the fans would go bananas. so maybe when they polled or voted with all the owners they voted against it.

I would imagine that the owners don't love the idea of paying players 2/3 of the full value of their contract, to not play for them, over twice the remaining term
