Weegar would be a fantastic add on the blueline, with Maurice apparently deciding Heinola and Samberg will not be having an opportunity on the left side.
- Rexypoo

Yea, all reports are that Weegar is a decent d-man. A possibility I guess. But just wonder is he a "top-pairing" d-man on a contending team?

Watch quite a few Panthers games, but Weegar didn't jump out at me - not sure if that's good or bad. Is he better than what we have already?

Was/am hoping for a Werenski, Pulock, Sanheim, P. Myers, Ekblad, Sergachev, etc but not sure that's possible - and would cost away more. Maybe have to trade one of current d-men+ to upgrade? Maybe it is what it is now?

It's probably wise to start Heinola and Samberg on the Moose (if there is an AHL season). Always easier to call up a deserving player than it is to send someone down if they are not ready.

If the season were to start right now, my feeling is you would see:

Morrissey-Pionk
Forbort-DeMelo
Beaulieu-Poolman
- Sbisa
- Niku

Samberg and Heinola to Moose.

Now if Samberg or Heinola prove they are ready, then we have an added bonus. Heinola looked decent last year, just needs some more experience and muscle (not lbs). To be fair, never seen Samberg play(I guess World Juniors) - but highly rated, just hard to make jump directly from College to NHL.

What an absolutely useless analogy. There is no expectation of violence or physical contact when you’re walking down the street. Totally incompatible situations.

As for the fighting comment, yes, they do have to be consensual. I can board Scheifele from behind at full speed, and if I keep my gloves on while you freak the f*ck out, and refuse to stop swinging or trying to get the refs off you, I’m going for boarding, and you’re going for roughing and probably an unsportsmanlike with a neat chance at a game misconduct.

And yes, a team carried by Copp and Lowry is likely a losing team. Which is what the Jets are right now. Because the team is mishandled

- Rexypoo

Nope Nope Nope. If someone takes a cheap shot at any of my teams star players, I want my tough guys to beat the bark off him. Consensual or not. Mitts on or not. There is a price to pay if you take cheap runs at stars, and I couldn't care less if there is an un-sportsmanlike penalty tagged to it. It's called accountability, and the specific game I was speaking of was 4-1 in the 3rd. Who cares if Lowry got 2,10, and a game at that point. Set a tone and show the other club that there is a price to be paid if cheap shots are taken. Maybe you should start watching soccer. Enstrom could be playing for one of the clubs for all I know. I heard you boy was quite the soccer player before he committed to hockey. No fighting there.

It would be nice to retain one more year of those precious entry level deals. Ville looked good in his short stint, but I feel both guys would benefit from a season in the AHL, playing big roles, and getting used to playing nearly double the games in a season. Plus, Ville has very little experience on the small ice. AHL would probably be a good start for the kid to get his bearings.

What will the AHL look like this year without fans? will they even play? If not then I wouldn't want assets like Heinola, Samberg and others sitting at home. Heinola may stay overseas, let Samburg make the jump as #7d even if just to get used to the vigors and stresses of a pro club, and get some games in no doubt. Neither can sit the year out. Perfetti needs to play too - another year of junior for him?

Yea, good question re AHL. Questions galore as we don't even know if the NHL will play.

No AHL, but NHL, maybe they do as major league baseball, increased roster?

Perfetti, unless he makes the big squad some how, is ticketed for Junior, as per rules I believe, but who knows if the major junior leagues will play. Maybe a league like the Manitoba Junior operates, and they take in guys like Perfetti? Or maybe the OHL, but just in Ontario? Uncertain future!

That would be awesome to see Perfetti in the MJHL, even if it is for Portage or Winkler - lol.
Back in the day Mike Ridley gave me the stick he had just scored the OT goal with vs my hometown Kings. Stick was broken... so bittersweet.

Okay, now see, I agree with you in the sense that if this forum was a big happy hockey team, I’m gonna murder/death/kill the guy that sends you face first into the boards at high speed. He’s cancelled immediately.

But that wasn’t the situation with Scheifele and Tkachuk. That was such a weird incident that I still can’t fully convince my self one way or the other if it was on purpose. I don’t think anyone instantly engages on that, and Wheeler was just punching the his leader card

If were going by last season, Weegar is probably our #1, or second to DeMelo.
He’s defence the musical, but the problem is that he much better playing the left side as a righty, which I can’t see Maurice allowing

I do not want Samberg as the #7. Nobody has ever developed by not playing. A game or two for a rookie just to watch Morrissey moves and calm down is fine, but you don’t sit prospects for big stretches. Look at all of the Islanders youngins that just aren’t allowed to stay in

I don't think it was a filthy play, however, it was a reckless liberty taken against one of us. Cant be tolerated or accepted as a normal hockey play. There was not much the refs could call - maybe a charge? But jets had to step up. Coincidently (or not) the jets defense was given the same reckless forecheck treatment throughout the series.

I didn't mind as much as bikeguy that it was wheeler who responded. Lowry could have stepped up his physicality another notch but was not the reason the jets lost the series.

I agree but throwing him in there as a starter is not a perfect answer either. Ideally he gets a season (or most of a season) with lots of ice in the A.

Harkins done...Niku and Roslovic to go.

Need to find a taker for Perreault.

I think you throw Samberg in as a starter 100% no questions asked in a normal world. You can’t just send him to to the moose if he doesn’t work out by game 25. I’m not sure how that works with all the uncertainty around how any of the leagues are running going into the season.

The troublesome part is that Maurice and the Jets are going to look at Beaulieu and Forbort as capable of surviving a top 4 role due to their history of playing with Subban and Doughty respectively.
Which wouldn’t be an issue for a team that has an elite defenceman laying around. Which the Jets dont.
Or if you ignore the Doughty that Forbort played with being worlds better than the current edition, and the part where Beaulieu cliff dived before being traded by Montreal, and hasn’t ever recovered. Which I guess doesn’t matter due to the first part.

I think you have a good point here.
I also think 4 Tobys, even the hurty prone versions, would fare better than 4 Hamonics of any age.

I’m not arguing against the idea of adding size. I don’t mind that. My only issue is that you seem to want to add players with “big” as attribute number 1.
Suggest a talented big man, and you’ve got me on board.

- Rexypoo

If I just wanted big I'd be fine with just Samberg, all I want is mobile dmen but average size, these super lite dmen the Jets have get pushed around too easy, I like that Sergachev is mobile and not super tiny.

I would like a dman or two with some size and nasty to their game though if possible, a guy like that would be good on the 3rd pair.

Radko Gudas was your man. Perfect 4/5 who can defend at a reasonable cost, and murder folks.

Sergachev is a 4mil player who will want 7. He’s not worth considering for us.

Yeah I would've liked a Gudas signing.

I also would've liked had Chevy made that Toews trade and signing that Sakic did.

I could be wrong, but I do think that a player burns of a year of their ELC once they enter the AHL. They get an AHL salary as opposed to a NHL salary and that is the only difference.

Tbh Toews-DeMelo and Morrissey-Pionk makes for as good a top 4 as we can hope for. Gudas as the 5 is just fine
